Very nice but I'm thinking the C&C Cages look quite a bit easier to assemble. Curious though, they can't be alone in the hutch or just when in the yard surrounding it? I can understand about the yard because of hawks, coyotes, etc. but what's wrong with the hutch?

Where I live the piggies can't be outside - too hot in the summer - so mine our indoors and the C&C Cage lets you see them better. Although I'm afraid their little minds are being warped from watching too much reality TV.

I'm not a joiner (don't know what one is really) so I wouldn't be assembling any cage requiring wood, chicken wire or tools.

It'd be nice to be able to let my piggies have some outdoor time, but with the hot Texas weather, it wouldn't be good for them. Plus, I can't let them run around on my grass b/c my dad uses a lot of products on our lawn.

Anyway, that's a cool hutch!

I don't know about NZ but yesterday it was 97 deg F. in Southern California. Too hot for pigs to be outside.

All clear now. A handy skill to have. There are so many things I would like to make but the main issue is the lack of proper tools. I took a woodshop class last year and we used the school's shop and it was heaven to have things like planers, routers, band saws, etc. I made a rocking horse for my son. Probably if I had those things at home I would have made a guinea hutch.

Talking Building a hutch

I was so pleased to find your web page! I have trawled the net looking for something to give me a hint on a good quality cage.. that won't cost me a fortune to build. I am off to B&Q and Wickes now.. with your list in hand! Thankyou so much!

~Hi. I'm new[on this site] and I currently have a c&c cage but I was going to make a hutch outside, only I don't know what temperature guineas can live in? [like will snow be really bad?] If it is I'm going to skip the hutch idea.~ ~c~

The ideal temps for them to live in are 65 degrees to 85 degrees although I think that 75 degrees is probably the best. They come from South America so living outside in snow is not an option .

Re: build your own hutch and run

ILovePiggies, please house them inside. They are not meant to withstand such col temperatures, hot temperatures etc. The wood will absorb the urine and mold if not covered. Wild animals might get in. Severe weather is also a threat. Thanks for the pics of the hutch!
