Whinge all you can, show them this page etc to try and turn them round in the meantime - you never know you might get lucky!
It worked for me, after 2 months of nagging, arguing and educating my parents they're finally letting me keep my piggies inside!!(yay!)
My advice is keep on trying!

Re: Are hutches so bad?

I'm lucky and I know it. My house is huge, and my parents don't mind having a two-level 2x6 C&C in the basement at all. I don't mean dark, dank basement either. I live in the basement. My room is lovely, and so is the room where the cavies will stay. We're working on converting it to a study/excercise/hang out room so that there will be more family activity in and out. I still worry about their warmth though. During the day, the heat is off and the basement is admittedly cooler than other areas of the house. It feels great in the summer though, a good place to escape the heat since we don't have air conditioning. Then again, it would be amazing for the temperature to hit 90 degrees where I live. I could leave a heat dish near their cage during winter, but it would be a fire hazard...
