Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Im not sure how in the world my baby boy managed to do this but he got halfway through a grid hole !! Its only an inch and a half at the most but he somehow managed to and got stuck. My poor baby was panicing when this happened last night and for a while we couldn't figure out how to help him because we didnt know which hole he was in (chinchillas have long fur and are smaller then they look). My mom didn't want to get up my dad complaining he needed sleep while my poor terrace was helplessly stuck. She ended up getting him and we got wire cutters trying not to hurt terrace in any way and ended up having to cut out four grid squares to get him out. He of course was shaking so I held him for a while until he relaxed and layed down in my arms. So as for chinchillas and cavy cages I cant recommend them because terrace could have been killed but if someone puts coroplast in as walls it may work. Unfortunately I am going to have to build them a new cages using (safe) wood and wire mesh. Also terrace and his buddy chewie are going to the vet (if you know any specializing in chins in charlotte nc please let me know) soon hopefully to have a good check up. |

Um, was it a C&C? We have warnings on this site saying C&C's aren't very good for Chins. |

Yes when I was building it though another chinchilla owner had two in a C&C cage saying they loved it and the warning had not been up but Im thinking about donating the grids to a rescue if I dont sell them. My babies are ok and thats all I care about right now but I want to take them to the vet just to make sure they are ok. Luckily I talked to experienced chin owners 8 months ago before rescueing them so I can still build one just with different materials. I better start soon though I hate them being in a small cage. |

This post has been up for quite some time now. Just about three years, actually. I'm sorry your guys were hurt and I hope they'll be ok. It's a great lesson on reading up on all the material you can before you build a cage that may do more harm than good. Hope it all works out for you and your chins. |

Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Yeah Im sorry I didn't see it but I did try to read up about it which is when I came across some other chin owner that had one. Unfortunately it looked safe. My boys had been in there for a while and terrace didn't really try to escape other then pressing his nose at the door when I walked by but neither of the boys were hurt. Chewie has never tried to escape so he had no problems in it but I am not going to chance it. Thanks for not being mean about it though I did try. But this time I am going with wood. I dont want them to have wire flooring like martins cages. Plus my friend who is a rescuer sent me a list of woods I could use a while back if I decided to make one. |
