Do you think a c&c cage would be okay for a parrot? I'm thinking of making one for a quaker or an african grey (whichever one I adopt). I would need a lot of cubes... Is it toxic? I think they're made of iron. |

i personally wouldn't use it for a larger bird or anything that is going to climb up and hang off the sides. they don't recommend them for chinchillas or anything that will bounce around in the cage because they can, although i think it would be difficult, destroy the cage. plus the size you'd have to make it, i would think height wise, it might get a little unstable. |

I wouldn't use them for parrot cages but I recommend the site www.landofvos.com for some great ideas on how to make DIY parrot stuff! |

I would think a C&C for a Quaker or African Grey would be fine. As long as you make it wide so it couldn't fall over. And I would suggest using zip ties as well as connectors. As far as Macaws and larger parrots go, I would be a little more careful, and maybe just invest in a parrot cage. |

I don't think it's a good idea. It is probably toxic, and they likely can destroy and/or take a C&C cage apart. You're probably just going to have to take the hit and buy a nice powdercoated and/or stainless steel cage for >$100-300. Talk to the rescue you are thinking about getting the bird from. Sometimes they get minorly damaged cages from the companies and can sell them to adopters as a fund-raising thing. My Quaker was in a 24x27" King's cage- retail like $300+, got it reduced at the rescue. But I was going to upgrade her before she died. It's really sad how tiny cages for parrots are considered acceptable. I wanted one where she could at least fly about in it a little. |

I have an african grey (Timneh variety), and I would not personally recommend a C&C type cage. They are extremely adept at using their beaks to chew through things, and a cable tie would only last mere moments if they wanted to bite through it. |
