Ferret C & C Cage Help

Hi, I am planning on getting a ferret over the Christmas holiday. I wanted to make a C & C cage. We do have a local sign shop that I know carries the coroplast so I know I can get that. The one thing I am worried about is the cube squares. I think Walmart doesn't sell them anymore but I can order them and get them delivered to the store for no shipping charge. I am worried about the space sizing in the cubes. Can someone look at these and see if you think it would be okay. It seems that there are 9 spaces in a row.
Walmart.com: Whitmor White Wire Storage Cubes, Four Cubes Interlocked: Storage & Organization I know I can double them if needed but I wanted to make sure I ordered the correct amount to make it.

Thanks for your help,
Debbie

Re: Ferret C & C Cage Help

Those look like the right size. They should have 1 and 1/2 inch squares.

Re: Ferret C & C Cage Help

The grids don't make very good ferret cages because the ferrets can get out of them too easily. They can get through some tiny areas. If you could find the mesh grids those may be better but not the standard wire grids even with the smaller grid spacing.

Re: Ferret C & C Cage Help

Try looking into a product like this, the grids aren't exactly 14x14 so you'd have to do some modifications, but these grids dont have that wide grid spacing that a ferret will squeeze out of.

Re: Ferret C & C Cage Help

Thank you very much. I went to Lowe's today looking around. First I thought I might be able to use the wire shelving there that you use for closets and racks and they have some where the wire spacing is very small. I guess the only problem would be that it is coated and the ferret might chew on it and swollow that coating : (

Re: Ferret C & C Cage Help

My petite female ferret can squeeze through the grids and she is full grown. I made the mistake of putting together an entire cage and then found at that she could get through so all my hard work was for nothing... this was of course about 3 years ago so it has been awhile.

Call the store and verify that. I know the stores near me, when I go on the website it says free store to store shipping.

I saw that online too. It says that you have to pay $29.00 a year to get, I guess, as many "to store" shippings. That is pretty bad. I guess it would save money over time if you consistantly ordered something that they didn't have in the store but you had to pay freight for.

On another note, I decided to just go with this cage Ferret Cages: Super Pet Multi-Floor Ferret Home with Stand at PETCO . Some of the reviewers said they had problems with broken pieces and such, but thank goodness ours was okay. My new fuzzie girl ( I haven't named her yet ) seems to like it except the slide thing twists up and I don't think she can figure it out yet. We did price out building a cage with wood, wire, linoleum, the latches, stain, making the doors and such and it was cheaper with the other cage. Maybe later on I will actually make on that looks really nice like a piece of furniture, but for now this cage is working out.

Debbie

Re: Ferret C & C Cage Help

Hey,

just get a FerretNation cage. They last pretty much forever if you take care of it good. You could get one off of craigslist for cheap, or the cheapest place i see if Ferret Supplies, Ferret Cages, Ferret Food - Ferret.com shipping in 699 period no matter what the size of the cage and this cage is huge!

plus you can order home made fleece sets and such for the cage!

I am getting a 142 which is two of the cages on top of each other for free on craigslist. I am also getting...:whisles: two females ginger, and honey, and there suplies. Everything is for free. it started out 100 bucks for everything so look on craigs list and post around!

Re: Ferret C & C Cage Help

I have a Ferret Nation cage model 142 for my rattie gang. They are great and easy to clean. You won't find a better retail price than over at ferret.com. That's where I ordered mine from. I made a great investment with that cage. And you aren't supporting PetStupid. Plus the FN142 is much larger than that cage you linked to.
