Hi guys, I am adopting a chinchilla from a relative who is no longer able to care for him. I am thinking about making him my own cage and seen that some people are concerned about its head getting caught in the grid holes. My newly adopted chinnie is 3 years old and is big, could his head still get caught in the holes? Or is that mostly a concern for babies. My grids are the recommended size for the piggies but I want what is best for my chinchilla too. |

Chins are more advanced at getting through stuff than guineas. If you still want to build your own, try the mesh. I found my mesh C&Cs at linens n things. |

I'm going to take your advice guys about the c and c cages. Thank you for replying to me. I can definitly see that my chinny can squeeze into small spaces because he can squeese up to his eyes through the wire cage he is in now and this cage has very small spacings, I would say he would squeeze through a cube square and get his head stuck!. Thanks again guys |

Yea try the mesh grids. If you dont know what they are they look like this: ![]() And Walmart has them for $20 and Target has them for $40. I also saw them on E-Bay before if you use that. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=5508731 Some places have the regular storage cube sets, just with this kind of grids. But those sometimes are harder to find, but if you do find them, they normally come in colors. |

I would definitely not advice C&C cages for chins, even if you use mesh grids. They aren't the sturdiest cages in the world, and chins need height more than width, with levels for jumping. Also, even the smallest bit of ingested plastic (or coro) can wreck havoc with their digestive track. If you want/need to build a cage, try for a melamine and wire mesh cage. Here's a great website: http://www.freewebs.com/mistywaterwoman/cages.htm |
