Sweetie comes from an abuse situation as far as being left behind so I think she was probably mishandled too. When ever I try to pick her up she is standing up on her hind legs as tall as she can and shooting pee on me! She will let me pet her head, chin, neck and sometimes tummy but any sudden move and I am off to the sink. I had a chinchilla years ago and never had this problem. Is this normal? I am told she is a she, I want to get her a cage mate so I have to sex her. Do both sexes do this. It makes me wonder if she is a he because she is darn near hitting herself in the chin. |

I don't think i can offer much advice except for saying that some chinchilla's don't like being picked up. |

She was doing really good before we went on vacation though. We were gone last Monday-Friday and a sitter came 3 times, so I thought she wouldn't be to mad at me. I did read somewhere online that this is normal for some females to do. I am going to try to slowly work with her using rewards. I need to get some oats. I have shredded wheat and half a raisin should be OK once and a while. |
