As the title says, after four years of my husband begging for one, we finally had the resources to get a chinchilla (needed money for cage, accessories, space for a big cage etc) We have named him Gizmo ![]() He is 10 weeks old. We got him Tuesday, left him in his cage for the first couple of nights. Yesterday he let me stroke him a bit, and today we corned off some of the living room, and opened his bottom cage door, and he came out running about, loved getting stroked and playing with us. I am really amazed at how tame he is already We have got a video of him in his sand bath, but haven't uploaded that yet, but it is so sweet, he loves it. Can anyone reccomend any good websites for resources on chinchilla care? |

Congrats on the new "baby". He's absolutely gorgeous! I think that it's great that your husband is so gung-ho for "little people", you know, small creatures. I also wanted to say how much I appreciate your sense of responsibility, waiting until you could give the little guy your best before you brought him home. I know that the three of you will have many happy, healthy years together. |

I don't have chinchillas, but this site seems pretty good. XXXXXXXXXXXX The website seems to take breeding seriously...they don't support it, yet do give basic facts on breeding. They do have a care section though that you may want to read. Last edited by VoodooJoint; 07-19-08 at 11:04 pm. Reason: Removed breeder friendy website |

Has anyone got any non breeding friendly links at all? We had Gizmo out for a play in the living room last night. We chinchilla proofed it, and then opened the cage door and let him start exploring. We put a few hidey houses out, but he was having too much fun to use them. |

There is some basic care info here Chincare.org and Chinchilla Rescue Perhaps if you email they can refer you to other sites. The usual ones have breeders on there too and breeding info. Last edited by rabbitsncavyluv; 07-22-08 at 03:25 am. |
