Chickens

Anyone have any info on chickens? I would really like to get a pair of females aka hens (as pets, I would never eat them). I need any sites with info, housing ideas etc.
Thanks in advance,
Natalie

Ya that will be the hardest part! Not many people are adopting out chickens.

Re: Chickens

That's really odd about the kittens! Did you know that pigs are almost as intelligent as chimpanzees, but most people have no idea?

Re: Chickens

speaking of intelligence of pigs, so many people have come to my house and said "guinea Pigs? but why????? They are so stupid! All they do is huddle in a corner all day."

And I really wanted to say, well, if they had a cage that actually allowed movement, theyd be doing lots. And if you actually made an effort to interact with them, they wouldnt just hide all day.

aaargh. makes me soo mad. mncavylover, do you have a link to something that says facts about piggy intelligence?

Re: Chickens

I agree with you. It's totally stupid of people to say that!

Well, one link is here: http://www.peta.org/feat/parade/cinpig.html
Hold on, I'll find more.

Ok, here are some more:

http://www.petakids.com/food_pigs.html

There are other sources than peta, but I knew those are reliable sites.

Re: Chickens

Sorry, I must have accidentally missed this thread previously.

Yes, there are plenty of sites about this. Here are some:

http://www.myerscough.ac.uk/animal/p.../guineapig.asp

Ok, scratch that. There aren't many. That's pretty much all I could find that wasn't a lab or a breeder. Please know that I don't really support the link above. It's all I could find. Look on the guinealynx forums if you'd like.

Re: Chickens

What constitutes intelligence? If you define intelligence as sociability and trainability, then cats would be considered "less intelligent" than dogs. But if you define it as stealth and cunning cats would be way more intelligent than dogs. It is too hard to determine intelligence and what animal is more "intelligent" then what other animal.

but here are two sites

Re: Chickens

Thanks for the links! I just couldn't find too many very quickly.

The second doesn't work, though.
