Cage Opinions! What is your opinion on this cage as a starter, temporary home for a ferret until a larger one can be acquired? http://www.critterstore.com/sp-60227.html

Re: Cage Opinions! I would want more bottom floor space. The platforms also seem a little small, and the ramp takes away bottom square footage from the lowest level. What permanent home are you intending to make? Materials e.t.c. How long will your ferret be in the cage for? If its not long I guess it will do after all we cant always win in these situations!

Re: Cage Opinions! What about a C&C? It would probably cost less.

Re: Cage Opinions! Im planning on making a C&C cage for my ferret (I dont have one yet!). I was just looking into some temporary housing until the cage was made. I see what you mean about the floor space, and the ramps. Thanks!

Re: Cage Opinions! If you want to make a C&C for a ferret you need to either use mesh grids or double grid the cage. Their heads are just the right size to get stuck in the holes without being able to get them back out. Ferrets really need a buddy as do pigs. If you are looking into a mesh C&C, (which is an excellent choice) try at least a 2x4x3. Ferrets require shots every year and to be spayed/neutered and descented. They are tons of money (at least $1500 a year per ferret). If you are looking to get one look into adopting one. They are the third most popular pet (according to NEEPS Inc) which means a lot of homeless ferrets. Try www.petfinder.com. I would do at least 2-4 months of research and visiting ferret rescues first before aquiring a pair for yourself. Make sure you can commit to their life span. If you are planning on going to college or moving in the next few years they may not be for you.

Re: Cage Opinions! I sure wouldn't spend $60 on a temp cage. Put that money into getting/building a good cage & get it completed before you get your ferret(s). If you can't afford the time & money to do it correctly from the start, you shouldn't get one. Like Slap said, they can be expensive. Please think long & hard before commiting yourself. And again, look into adoption, there are more ferrets out there for adoption than GPs.
