Re: Gerbils? Well they love to chew so have lots of carboard boxes and peices(sp?) of wood on stand by for them. They like to explore and are good climbers. Some can be quick but some will sit there in you'r hand happily. They come in lots of colours. Like eating certian types of fruit. It is easy to tell male from female. I don't know what els to say really. What did you want to know?

Re: Gerbils? My friend had three of them once. They are really cool little guys (or girls). They are much less likely to ever bite than a hamster or mouse. They are easy to care for and are pretty clean animals. They will usually only pee and poo in one spot. So that saves money on bedding because you can just scoop out that spot. The ones that my fried had were really sweet. They would ride around on her shouled and stuff like that. Hope some of that helped.

Re: Gerbils? Well the love to dig so a fish tank makes the best home. The 2 who don't live in a fish tank go in a plastic "digging" tank overnight. They can eat a wide varaity of fresh food.

Re: Gerbils? They do much better in an aquarium than a hamster cage with all those plastic tubes. They chew their way out of the plastic tubes and throw bedding through the bars. If you do want to see them run through tubes check the tubes at least once a day for chewed on spots and you'll have to replace fairly frequently. I use a clear storage container with a mesh lid on it. They love having things hanging from the lid such as wooden toys with holes in them. They have lots of fun jumping onto hanging or tall things. Gerbils will take the dirty bedding and pile it or bury it in one spot. The material in their nesting area will always stay clean so you don't really need to clean their nest out too often. Provide them with a little enclosed place to nest and some nesting material like plain white papertowels or toilet paper and lots of cardboard to chew on. Gerbils chew alot on anything they can get ahold of so anything in their cage will eventualy need to be replaced. They also like rolling in chinchilla sand and will use it to bury their dirty bedding. Don't use chinchilla dust or they can have respiratory problems and don't use regular sandbox playsand because it's too abrasive. Menards used to sell a grey fine grade sand that mine loved but they haven't had any lately.
