Regarding: Guinea Pigs (Animal Planet Pet Care Library)

I have not read this entire book, I simply picked it up at the Humane League to browse through while waiting to adopt our rat, and I was shocked (pleasantly) when I opened to housing and saw they had the proper size requirements listed. Not only that, but they devote a large portion of the housing material in the book to talking about C&C cages. I was so happy to see this - it means the message might be getting out there for more people. After all, many people view Animal Planet as a trusted source to get information, so the fact that they are promoting C&C cages means this new idea (and the minimum size requirements!) are catching on to a wider audience.

Sorry, I don't even know if this is the proper place to post this I was just so excited when I saw this I had to come share it with you guys! If only the guinea pig book I had picked up before getting my two babies had been this helpful two years ago!!!

Great book!! That's the 1st thing I bought before I got my 1st guinea pig, but I got it a petsmart (I know bad).

What did you learn from book?

Well, as said before if has all kinds of cage information. It show the medications that should NOT be given to guinea pigs. Tells about their histery and ancestors. Tells about the different charateristis of the breeds. Tells why guinea pigs should NOt be given as pets. It has safty precautions when it talks about letting your pig out for exercise in a safe pin that's inclosed so animals can't get to it. It talks about diseases guinea pigs have and what to look for. Tells you how to pick a cavy savvy vet. It also talks about some sounds that guinea pigs make and what they mean. Much more that I can't think of right now. Here is another book that is a lot like this book, but it cover the stuff in much more detail I think. I bought both. That's exciting! I'll look into that book. The other day I was looking at rat cages and in the guinea pig section they had very large professional c&c cages. It's nice to know that some places get the message!

OH! I got that from the library and I was giddy with excitment when I saw the section on c&c cages (and also giddy when I saw a bunch of other information that is on this site). Yeah, LOTS of people trust animal planet. Im SOO glad they are giving out GOOD info.

My parents got me this book for Easter (it was their way to tell me that I can get a guinea pig) and I finished the book in 2 days. I think it is a great book and it is true. They have a whole section devoted to vets and they also state that guinea pigs need each other. I definately recommend it.

I read this book and I think it had some good info, but there was definitely some outdated stuff, too. So be careful about this book, it's not 100% correct.
