If it's anything like how it works for dog movies, it will be a very bad thing for guinea pigs to get the extra media attention. Half the little kids seeing it will whine to get one, and people will breed them to meet the demand, and they'll end up ditched or in shelters or in a tank in a preschool. |

Thanks to Disney: G-Force -- The Official Site I'm just wondering if there's been any discussion among the mods about the onslaught that will hit the boards after this movie launches. I'm also really worried about the rescues not being prepared for adopters and eventually the inevitable dumping of them. Should I start a new thread on that topic? |

I knew this movie was coming and have been very concerned about it. There is already a big problem with animals being bought as toys, gifts, and novelty items due to holidays, movies, fads, etc. Movies like this just perpetuate that dilemma. Ratatoulle and 101 Dalmations are both good examples. I hope it doesn't happen...but, I have a bad feeling that pet stores and breeders are going to profit from this movie. I hope us rescuers are able to handle the overflow. If not... |

I am concerned also. Sales of rats went way up after Ratatoulle. Most people will not even look into what it takes to raise GP's or what they need for a happy life. It will just increase an already overpopulation problem. So sad I just wish they would not make such "cute" movie, but alas it's all for the big green buck. Who benefits? Not the rescues. It just breaks my heart.... ' |

The thought of this movie coming out makes my stomach turn. You can't help but imagine places like pets at home having some ridiculous promo on.: "buy two guinea pigs for £15 and get some crappy piece of Disney G-Force merch free". They're going to milk this thing dry, every piece of junk that looks even remotely like it's meant for a guinea pig will have the characters faces splattered all over it. Ultimately the saddest part will be after a few weeks once all the hype of the movie is over and the kids are predictably bored with their pigs as they finally realise that guinea pigs can't climb over walls, or drive cars or whatever crazy stunts they've got them doing and the rescues are going to be overwhelmed because people who went and bought these pets didn't think any of it through! ![]() Sorry for being a party-pooper, I know a lot of people are looking forward to seeing it...I think I'm going to have a giant rock shipped to mars and go and hide under it until this whole thing dies down. |

I just think its cool that a movie with guinea pigs is coming out, sometimes I rent movies just so I could see the five seconds with the guinea pig in it. this movie is probably neutral when it comes down to the population issue. |

I cringed at the previews not only because I do not think it is going to be a quality movie in the first place and because of the pet issue. People just cannot go see a movie with an animal in it without half of them thinking that they suddenly need to get themselves their own version of said animal. It is just not logical to me. How is a cooking rat or a world-saving guinea pig anything like the real animal? How can people honestly believe that it would be a good idea to own an animal because they saw some anthropomorphic version on the big screen? |

I think it looks like a cute silly movie. I do agree though about the whole kids wanting guinea pigs and then eventually not caring for them anymore, which worries me as well, I hate seeing animals neglected. |

I hope that maybe they would put up a disclaimer or something at the first of the movie so that people don't recklessly buy animals for they kids to forget. Some like "Guinea Pigs have lives too, please dont buy them unless you want to take care of them properly for life! Go visit C&C cages now on the web if you really want one that bad"! .I want to see Angels and Demon friday night and saw the poster for G-force, I think my 3 year old will like it! He loves our piggies! |

Hi : About this movie I think is going to leave a lot of homeless pets. For example my neighbor called me two days ago to ask me where he could buy 2 guinea pigs for his children.Since he knows I have gps he thought I knew where to buy them I told him that gp are not toys that if him and his wife would take care of them I would give them 2 of mine but I gave him a cc cage with food and vegetables and I go and check on them every day because they are next door. The kids wanted the gps because of the movie and the local pet shop owners are saying that they dont have anymore gps because everybody wants one because of the movie it is horrible! |

I really hope that this is not going to happen, even though it probably will. It is going to take a bunch of people to really make a difference in this world, but it is going to take the media, to ruin it all ONCE AGAIN! |

I just sit sometimes and wonder if anyone is listening...does anyone care? Why do we try to educate, warn, and enlighten only to consistantly have to be patient and PC with those who have read the info on this site and still buy from a pet store? Why do we beat our heads up against a brick wall? I want to just give up and quit, but something keeps me going. I don't know why. I guess it's maybe for the 1-in-10 who may actually care about what we know and tell them. I'm getting to that point though... |

I guess we won't know until it really clicks in someone's mind and they take action as well. The media, can ruin everything that someone, or something has worked up to. With one person starting something, everything that person had worked up to will be ruined by one false comment. Words do hurt sometimes, and the media, is only going to make things worse. |

I think that rescue organizations should be encouraged to put out a press release dealing with this issue and the inappropriate behavior shown in the movie (exercise wheels, balls, etc.) At least some parents might read it and think twice about getting their kid a pig. |
