The owners abandoned the rabbit and then admitted to it. Their excuse was "We wanted him to have friends." Poor excuse. There is no excuse for abandonment. They found him thin, dehydrated, and full of ticks. Poor guy. 090409_Bunny_Abandoned_in_New_Jersey_Woods |

This is so sad. I'm glad that he survived and that he is now at a good weight and has good health etc. The owners completely deserve that $1,000 fine and i'm happy he's going to a new home in time just for Easter. Maybe the owners should try living in the woods for 2 weeks without food or water and see how it feels. Especially when predators like foxes are all around, good thing a fox didn't see this poor little guy. |

Poor bunny. I hate when people do stuff like that. I don't know why people even feel that it's acceptable to dump a domesticated and denfenseless animal. |

I actually hope he gets a home AFTER Easter- my bunny when I was younger was an 'Easter bunny' in that someone bought her as a baby on Easter and by May (my birthday) was too big and no longer wanted. |

This just came out in the local Pocono Record this morning that a New Jersey man is facing charges for releasing the family pet rabbit into the wilderness (his backyard). Now is facing 2000.00 in fines and possible jailtime. NJ man charged after rabbit left in woods April 10, 2009 MARLBORO, N.J. (AP) — Think twice before giving a real rabbit as an Easter gift. A New Jersey man is accused of abandoning his family's pet rabbit in the woods behind his Marlboro home. Jong Park was issued summonses for abandonment and failure to provide food, water or shelter to a pet. The 51-year-old could face up to $2,000 in fines if convicted. Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Police Chief Victor Amato says the family wanted the rabbit "to make new friends." Amato says they didn't understand a domesticated animal can't survive on its own. The rabbit, named Hope, is regaining its health. |

That's great, maybe he'll get some sense knocked into him. Instead of jail they should leave him in the woods for two weeks to find his own food and water. For goodness sake rabbits are PREY animals. They couldn't possibly make friends with any other animal, enless it's their teeth. |

I'm glad to hear that they upped the charge...that guy/family deserves it. Domesticated Rabbits cannot survive in the wild, only wild rabbits can. I have no clue what was going on in the owner' heads. |
