Pet Store Rents chicks for Easter - Guinea Pig Cages, Care, Store, Photos of Guinea Pigs and More Forum!

I live near Buffalo, NY and there is a local pet shop called Steve's Wonderful world of Pets. For Easter they rent out chicks for 2 weeks for Easter. I believe they charge $39.95. Several years ago they were in trouble for dyeing chicks for Easter!!!

How is this even legal??? Two weeks is a long time for a baby especially when being cared for by an unexperienced person. I wonder how many they get back, alive at least.

That is sickening. Where do the send them after the rental period and they are "not so cute" anymore? I bet kill buyers or something. Truly sad. I too bet a lot of them don't make it back to the pet store.
There were pet shops in Texas that dyed chicks AND rabbits for Easter...and humane society was able to seize all of the animals and adopted them to a farm sanctuary, and not to long after it was against the law to dye animals for any reason.
There are feed stores where I live in TX that sell baby chicks, turkeys, and even baby peacocks year round.

Ugh, Easter sure takes a hell of a toll on the small pets, it even trickles down to guinea pigs.

What???? That's insane!! whats wrong with stuffed toy chicks? I knitted them and you can even put a chocolate egg inside, much more fun for kids. But how people are so thoughtless??

That's disgusting! People should be renting movies or houses, not animals! I hope it's illegal and he has to pay up big time, along with a lifetime ban from animals. Dying animals is also wrong in my mind. I dont care if it's special dye just for them, we have a choice in the matter if we want to dye our own hair, they don't have a voice to do so. It's not natural. Too many people are using pets as accessories now a days and that's distubing. Even if that guy isn't breaking any rules, he's still a crook in my mind.
