Re: "Blinders" movie - a must see!

I still don't understand why argumentative people keep coming and coming.

Thanks for the information about the movie, Imarieaa. It's probably one of those that I won't go see, though. If I can avoid crying, I try to.

To Katie-

PETA is NOT an "animal welfare" organization, as per Gary Francione, Ingrid Newkirk's good pal:
"Not only are the philosophies of animal rights and animal welfare separated by irreconcilable differences... the enactment of animal welfare measures actually impedes the achievement of animal rights... Welfare reforms, by their very nature, can only serve to retard the pace at which animal rights goals are achieved."

Animal Rights vs Animal Welfare

In the end, I think it would be lovely if we stopped this whole notion of pets altogether." Ingrid Newkirk, President of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA), Newsday, February 21, 1988

Eventually companion animals would be phased out."

I like how you can only resort to insults and name calling rather than pose facts and proof to your side of the argument.

Also, I wouldn't be "LMAO"ing too hard. Karma has a way of finding it's way to everyone in the end.

Re: "Blinders" movie - a must see!

Michaleen I can't believe that you are being so rude on this forum. Most of what you have said is really uncalled for. Whether or not you are a supporter of PETA or not, it is rude to come to a Peta friendly website and bash them to its members. And a few of your posts are personal attacks on members. Are you aware that alot of the members on this site are underage? I am a mother myself, and it is people like you that talk rude to people that keep me from allowing my kids to join sites like this. You should be ashamed of yourself. If you can't be nice then please leave.

Re: "Blinders" movie - a must see!

Michaleen, if you have such a good case, why didn't you answer any of my questions!?
You think is not mishandling a horse when you yank it at the bit? Are you crazy? You think it is okay for horses to eat feed off of the bare street?

Wait, oh my god are you kidding me? Hey guys, are we really reading this!? I was born on a horse ranch, and was mucking stalls since I could walk...but I am still wrong on how to handle horses! I trained natural horsemanship with my father for over 5 years!
He is just trying to defend the torture he puts his horses through on a daily basis. If there wasnt a guilt conscience, he would not be coming back here defending his case over and over, and BLATANTLY IGNORING MY QUESTIONS on response to his first post.
Your personal attacks are way too much man. Your waaaay to defensive about your bussiness. Give me some concrete support for your supposed "good treatment" of the horses OTHER than your PR youtube and hilarious blog links. What? You can't? Didnt think so.
Go back to your blog where you and your fellow abusers can wallow in your filth.

Re: "Blinders" movie - a must see!

I just want to thank Lmarieaa for posting about the movie as it does interest me and I would have never known about it otherwise. I am sorry this has turned into such a debate.

I also want to thank Babybunny, I completely drew a blank when I was trying to think of anhidrosis. I've never had a horse actually have it, my horse always had weird problems like being allergic to dust and fly bites!!! Oh well.

Re: "Blinders" movie - a must see!

I totally did not intend for this post for end up this way! Oh well. You can't convince the people that the animals that are fattening their wallets are not being well cared for. These people have the illusion that they are doing what is best for their horses, I am sorry but, working your horse in conditions mid day summer heat and freezing snow storms and then trading out overworked horses for new ones at auctions is unacceptable and cruel.
And carriages are NOT here to stay...here is a list of cities that have banned horse drawn carriages:
FLORIDA
Kenneth City
Key West
Deerfield Beach
Palm Beach
Panama City Beach
Pompano Beach
[FMISSISSIPPI
Biloxi
NEVADA
Las Vegas
Reno
NEW MEXICO
Santa Fe
NEW JERSEY
Camden
SOUTH CAROLINA
Broadway at the Beach – the carriage operator was subjected to such heavy restrictions that the company folded last year
ENGLAND – London, Oxford
FRANCE – Paris
CHINA – Beijing
CANADA - Toronto

And New York City will be on that list someday..I guaran-freakin-tee it!

....I have a feeling we have not seen the last of Michaleen.

My suspicion is that theresaj agreed with what michaleen said about PETA, but knowing that anything perceived as an attack on that organization is not acceptable, she opted to quietly thank this post rather than get involved in any other way. And, I'm sorry, but that's her right as much as it's any other member's right to thank anyone for any reason without fear of retaliation or expectation of an explanation.

In other words, I think it's a bit harsh that you'd call out someone like theresaj, who has been a great member and has been around for a while now. She doesn't have to explain her reason for thanking an otherwise controversial post and her membership here certainly shouldn't come into question for doing something so benign.

Re: "Blinders" movie - a must see!

Paula is right. People do not have to agree with Peta, animal rights/welfare or anything else to belong to this site. We simply do not allow attacks on certain subjects. The reasons why are all stated either on the Principals and philosophies forum or here in the kitchen.

We have the thanks feature for a reason. It's a way to quietly acknowledge your support. TheresaJ handled her support correctly. Instead of fueling an argument/opinion that out guest was not going to win on this site she simply thanked her. That is completely acceptable and people should not call out other members for correctly using the tools we offer on this site.

In the future, if anyone takes issue with another member, I would like to see the "report post" feature utilized, or a PM send to one or all of the mods, instead of a public inquisition.

I always feel bad when I use report post, but I do. I feel like a snitch! It's just necessary at times, unfortunately.

I don't understand why that post was "unappreciated". It was a simple statement. I wasn't directing any negativity toward anyone for whatever opinions that person had. I was not the person who even brought it up. Geez.

Re: "Blinders" movie - a must see!

Wow, I am glad you are banned from using this site. I hope that the law catches up with you and you are put into jail for MANY MANY years for animal cruelty. Your horses and many others are being mistreated everyday in both the extreme heat and the extreme cold. How can you say that having your horse standing and walking in the hot sun all day is humane? I don't like to do this, and I wouldn't want to be carrying a heavy cart behind me every day of my life. I plan on buying the movie Blinders and showing it to everyone that I know to spread the word.
And as for you Michaleeen, have fun in hell.

Is no one stricken by the backwardness of stating "we are pro-PETA and no criticism of it is allowed"? Essentially you're saying "we believe X, we will always believe X and you are not allowed to say Y." Very open minded of you.
