I discovered this story today over on another forum. It is sickening, and apalling. The article will be upsetting for some, it does contain some basic info on how the pigs died.

This is the worst story I personally have heard about piggie abuse, and so close to 'home'.

Oh my. Thats....appalling. But six months does not seem long enough. If he can do this to 125 guinea pigs, imagine what he could to to a child. THis makes me so angry. They need to havee harsher punishemnt!

That is amazingly sad. Sounds kind of like a breeder who got tired of doing it or something of the sorts to me. Being there were babies and pregnant females. People are so sick, and although I have no proof, it was a breeder, I would say one more reason to be against breeding.

That and maybe even a regular pet owner who thinks that they can handle their pet breeding... and then look what happened.

Breeding is just wrong!
The numbers of wrongful deaths, precious lives wasted just keeps piling up!

I wished that MOD can somehow make this a sticky for an example of breeding abuse!

If the link can be kept alive somehow (I know over time, sometimes links expired), pictures shown!

It teaches us all a good lessons on never to breed!

I have a theory as to why that pervert only got 6 months in jail. I honestly have to say that I really think the reason that he only got 6 months max in jail is because to lawmakers, guinea pigs are "just guinea pigs". They most likely think that dogs and other pets are better animals than guinea pigs.

Nobody can explain why some people have this mentality, they just do. They're the kind of people that make up law officials everywhere. The law officials make their rules by trying to reperesent what they think is the general opinion of everyone. In their heads they think "Who would think their pet guinea pig is more important than their pet dog? I mean, come on guys, we can't put a guy away for too long just for killing some guinea pigs. I mean, its not like their dogs or cats or horses, so...lets be reasonable."
That is probably very close to what they think, they think it wouldn't be fair or humane to the criminal to punish them harshly for killing cavies.

On Animal cops on animal planet this one time, this guy beat two dogs so badly that they both died. He got what animal planet always says at the end of Animal Cops "people on this program may not have been found guilty, and those who have will spend no more than 2 years in jail".
The sad truth is that people just do not care about animals as much as they do people, and they firmly believe that animals have no feelings. I beg to differ, but I won't get into that.

I find it completely unbelievable that a man who killed just 2 dogs gets two years in jail, but some jerko butt-face who kills 122 more guinea pigs than the other guy killed dogs.....gets away with murder with six friggin frackin months in jail......

What if this guy had killed 124 dogs instead of 124 cavies, then I bet the dumb dumber and dumbest law officials would give him ten or so years in jail............

Plus, they completely miss the point that studies have shown that people who abuse animals are much much much more likely to take those behaviors onto humans.....so, like AnimalHouse36 said, imagine what this killer could do to a child, or to any human being? If those studies are true as they claim they are, then this guy could be out in only half a year, on the streets, a danger to anyone around him.

The person who did this has not been caught; the pigs were only found a few days ago. There is no guarantee that it is a breeder who has done this, though it is likely, and they suspect an inexperienced breeder who got in over their heads. They'll be looking out for breeders who suddenly lost all their 'stock', or someone who supplied local pet shops but suddenly no longer does.

The reason for it saying 'up to 6 months' isn't because they are guinea pigs instead of a more popular animal. Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 it is the maximum penaulty for anybody who causes suffering to animals. Although I do agree its nowhere near enough for things like like, just wanted to clear up that the 6 months has nothing to do with the species at all

And to add further to this:

It doesn't matter if it was a breeder or not who did this. The point is that they still did it, and it shouldn't matter if it was a breeder or not.

For example, if a precious-looking little kid did this, then it shouldn't seem like a lesser offence than if an actual breeder did it. I would say put the kid in the same amount of time and same place as they'd put the breeder or anyone else who could've done it in.

Breeder or not, its still wrong. If it was a mentally ill person, it's still wrong. If a human being did it, then its wrong.

Although I agree with you in theory sophisticavy, where would a little kid or mentally ill person get 124 guinea pigs? Unless they were breeding them. Accidental breeding possibly, but breeding just the same. I will not say it was absolutely a breeder, because noone knows, but logically the chances are pretty good. I do agree no matter who it was they deserve the same sentence.
