A puppy and parrot were abandoned on a small island after the owners were left stranded, adrift at sea, for 3 months and rescued by a supply ship that refused to take the animals as well. Hawaiian Cruise Line (HCL) and a lone Las Vegas man went the distance to save the puppy but due to "Paperwork problems" the bird was not brought along. I am unaware at this time if the bird is in safe hands or still on the island. Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com Thank you HCL and the L.V. man for caring about animals you don't even know. I'm glad at least one animal was brought to safety. |

It is so nice to hear of good people who will go the extra mile for an animal. We hear of the bad ones way to much. From what I gather, the man in Las Vegas is going to keep Snickers? That is just awesome. I do hope the parrot did as well. |

That's great for the dog, but I'm a bit annoyed that the parrot was left behind. Although- if the island is a suitable habitat, it would probably be nicer for him to stay there. Unless the guy that adopted Snickers is parrot/large macaw savvy (which it didn't sound like) and even then- the macaw is better off in the wild if he isn't too imprinted on people or what have you to survive. Without more info I don't know whether to be angry the bird was left or relieved... Great for the pup, though, that's for sure! |

From the news story that I read both the pup and parrot were going to be killed until some concerned people stepped in. Hopefully the paperwork will be completed and the parrot will be safely brought off the island. Kudos to the guy who is giving the pup a home. Lots of raspberries to the owners who abandoned their pets. |

[quote=kavykrazy; Kudos to the guy who is giving the pup a home. Lots of raspberries to the owners who abandoned their pets.[/quote]From what I read they were adrift at sea for 3 months and the rescue ship refused to take them. I'm certain that under the circumstances they did the best they could by at least getting them to land-- of course I do question why they didn't launch their own rescue. |

That's what I was referring to. No where have I read that they tried to get the animals back. If they had gotten their story out to the media, surely lots of people would have helped them get the animals. A stranger managed to figure out how to do it. |

I'll bet after being gone for 3 months, you probably don't have much in the way of finances. (No job, haven't paid any bills, credit in the hole, probably declared legally dead) It's probably pretty expensive to hire out a boat to go and get a dog and a parrot, though I'm glad someone did, poor animals. |
