Re: Soldier throws puppy off cliff...PETITION!

Look at the smiles on their faces.

It has been clinically proven in the medical/psychological field that abuse of animals shows strong indication of homicidal tendencies. I heard that somewhere. Those soldiers probably get a kick out of murdering people, even though other soldiers probably can't stand it in relality.
Those men in the video need to have the death penalty, what they did is the same as throwing a human baby, dead or alive, off a cliff. If people get jailed for infanticide, why not for the same thing except dealing with animals?

This is why I used grammar and split my sentences up.

We've seen plenty of videos of them abusing captives - meaning soldiers in general, and there is no denying there has been many, far too many in my opinion of soldiers abusing their powers.

Something has to be done about 'this' barbaric behaviour among US soliders. - Are they not American in that video?

Had I mentioned in my post something about the videos of abuse by British soilders (which is also far to rampant) I doubt this would of even raised an eyebrow. But I did not, because this cruelity was inflicted by American soldiers.

Nowhere did I mention 'all' or 'most' American soldiers. I am sure the majority of soldiers are not like the disgraceful human beings in the video.

You are correct in saying that it is not just US soldiers who are doing bad things. I am perfectly aware of this fact. It was your use of the word "them" that brings to mind that you are accusing all US soldiers of cruelty of all sorts. Not just the select few who are. In my opinion, it is mostly the fault of the media that this opinion is being fostered around the world. You rarely if ever see the many compassionate things that are done by soldier (US, British, whoever) around the world. Only the cruelty is newsworthy.

I compared it to racism because to me, when you say something derogatory about an entire group of people, because of the actions of a select few, isn't it the same thing? It seems to me that it is the equivalent saying that because someone is Black, they are more likely to do drugs or rob banks. When a blanket statement is made, "If THEY can do this to a puppy, imagine what cruelty THEY can inflict on humans." It seems to me that the THEY means the entire group, not the select individuals.

In any case, I'm sorry to have insulted you. It was unintentional, and not necessarily aimed at just you. (Whichi is of course essentially the same thing I just accused you of, so I am extremely sorry about the whole thing) I just get so sick of seeing these things over and over again in the media without ever any mention of the good things that are being done. And it is not just soldiers, but many, many different people. Newspapers aim to sell papers, TV stations to sell advertising. Good, happy stories don't appeal to as broad an audience, so the revolting and shocking are pushed forward.

I know nothing of your background and again I apologize for offending you. I come from a military family and I know what it is like to have family away at war. My father was a member of the 101st Airborne and has been on the front lines. And to hear "the military" maligned all the time is a very personal blow to me. It is like people are saying that becasue my father is a career army officer, he condones or even participates in such behaviours. It is simply untrue. Most military men and women I have met are wonderful people.

That is very, very sick. I can't believe anyone would find that amusing or funny in any sense, they must be so wrong and twisted in the head to ethier REALLY do that or even produce such a vile video. I just hope they get punished for it. People like that do deserve what is coming to them.

Re: Soldier throws puppy off cliff...PETITION!

That video really shocked me and made my stomach turn. If it was a live puppy, everyone involved should be punished severely. If it's a hoax, they should be punished because even if it was an already dead puppy, other people watching it may not realize it and it give them bad ideas to do to defenseless little animals. This video makes me so sad for little animals everywhere.

Re: Soldier throws puppy off cliff...PETITION!

War is a horrible thing. I've known a couple of guys who went and came back with stories about some soldiers not being able to handle it in a proper way. They can become numb to what's going on, and as a result start doing barbaric things that they would not even think about doing in a more civilized situation. It's not an excuse for any atrocity that has been committed by any soldier of any country. But it does go to show that we need to have a better support system over there to help soldiers cope with the situations they find themselves. We need to realize how the terrible happenings of a war can possibly affect someone who might be the most caring person in the world in his/her normal life and do something to correct it before more animals and people suffer.

Just like all the suicides that are going on, things like this prove that war can really mess you up and this nation needs to step up to the plate and get these guys the help they need.

Re: Soldier throws puppy off cliff...PETITION!

Who would do that?! I didnt see the video because my computer is slow but i can tell by the descriptions that it was just plain wrong. I would throw that guy down a cliff if it is real. if its fake, i'd still give them a good smacking for trying to be "funny" when it is just plain dumb and immature!

I agree with everyone here. If that video is real there is something seriously wrong with the guys, if it's fake i still thinks sick and disgusting. Either way, it that video should never have been made.

Re: Soldier throws puppy off cliff...PETITION!

Has there been any feedback, as to the petition or what really went on? Has anyone heard or read anything?

I was sickened by this whole thing. It bothered me for days, still does.

Figured I would post an update. Snopes still has it listed as undetermined but I'm on the fence.

Marine expelled over YouTube puppy video
Second Marine punished for clip showing dog thrown off cliff in Iraq
AP-updated 12:34 a.m. ET, Thurs., June. 12, 2008

HONOLULU - The Marine Corps said Wednesday it was expelling one Marine and disciplining another for their roles in a video showing a Marine throwing a puppy off a cliff while on patrol in Iraq.

The 17-second video posted on YouTube drew sharp condemnation from animal rights groups when it came to light in March.

The clip shows two Marines joking before one hurls the puppy into a rocky gully. A yelping sound is heard as it flips through the air.

"That's mean. That's mean, Motari," an off-camera Marine is heard telling the Marine who tossed the black and white dog. The off-camera Marine snickered slightly afterward.

Lance Cpl. David Motari, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment at Kaneohe Bay, is "being processed for separation" from the Marine Corps, the Marine Corps said in a news release. He also received unspecified "non-judicial punishment."

The Marine Corps didn't say what role Motari played in the clip.

The video was viewed tens of thousands of times before YouTube took it down because of a violation of the site's terms of use.

"The actions seen in the Internet video are contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine and will not be tolerated," Marine Corps Base Hawaii said in a news release. "The vast majority of Marines conduct their duties with honor and compassion that makes American people proud."

The second Marine, Sgt. Crismarvin Banez Encarnacion, also received unspecified "non-judicial" punishment.

Encarnacion is assigned to the Weapons and Field Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.

First Lt. Binford Strickland, a Marine Corps Base Hawaii spokesman, said the service may not reveal what roles the two men played in the video because that was part of the investigation. He said releasing such information would violate the Privacy Act.

Strickland declined to provide details about the disciplinary measures taken against the men for the same reason.

Re: Soldier throws puppy off cliff...PETITION!

Apparently US marines orders are to terminate dogs on sight...because if the dogs follow them they might give away their position to the enemy. Also most of the dogs will be feral and living miserable lives. I seen millions of starving dogs when I was in Sri Lanka, with rotting wounds and missing ears and god knows what else. To be honest I think putting a lot of these dogs to sleep would be better for them. Not that I agree with what the soldier did. Humanely killing a dog and throwing it off a cliff are two entirely different things.

Re: Soldier throws puppy off cliff...PETITION!

I singed it, im glad someone has already done this petition. I wanted to do one! I hope he gets in a lot of trouble I think its VERY pathetic how he only got discharged, the government is pertecting him some what, by not having him charged!
A guy in the navy assulted me and my friend and he had done it several occations before us and he got off scott free. Only becuase he was in uniform and all decked out.

Edit: There is no way it is fake. Becuase one when he throws the puppy the moment it leaves his hand it starts yelping. Even though it did stop yelping before it hit the ground the pup still bounced. Its neck probably snapped right before it hit the ground..well thats what I would hoped that it died before it hit the ground. Its just way to sick.
