| I know there are so many similar videos and articles out there. I have never seen one on the auctions though. All of it is so sick. Yet the first thing people say is my pet store or my breeder does not contribute to the problem. Stop Puppy Mills The News Leader - www.newsleader.com - Staunton, Va. In the story chat one of the breeders responds. A real piece of work. Claims to have worked at a spca where she euthanized animals and that is why she breeds dogs!!! | Re: Puppy mills in Virginia That's just unbelievable. Just think what a big improvement could be made on pet overpopulation, not to mention welfare in general, if all these scuzzy places got shut down. |

Re: Puppy mills in Virginia Me and my family were looking for good dog breeders and the first place we went to was a puppy mill (we didnt know untill we got there). The place was really gross. It was basically a bunch of dogs in a big smelly barn. I could tell if the dogs were old because they were boney and showing thier age. Thank goodness we found the breeder we did because she doesnt breed for profit, only for the pure love of the breed. I dont think she has more than a few litters a year and watches the bloodlines very closely. She has some old dogs but I would have never guessed that they were old because they still look like they're 4 or 5 not 7 or 8. She makes you sign a contract stating that you wont breed and if anything happens and you cant take care of the dog anymore you have to bring it back to her. Also you cant see any puppies untill you have filled out a four page questioner and she either has to come look at your house or you have to know someone who has gotten a puppy from her before. She has all the puppies personality tested and gives you a puppy that will fit in with your lifestyle. She really cares about the puppies so I feel that she is an exellent breeder. Some people just dont know what it takes to breed an animal. I really hate those types of people.

Re: Puppy mills in Virginia They just busted a puppy mill in VA and took over a 1000 dogs. They had to distribute them to shelters over quite an area. One of my friends is fostering some of them, they're all in bad shape... terrified of people, and most with awful dental problems.

Re: Puppy mills in Virginia It's horrible how people could care less about the dogs or any animals needs and only care bout what goes into their pockets. It's sad. All we can do is educate and rescue.

Re: Puppy mills in Virginia All the shelters near me are flooded with dogs from the most recent one. I have been to about 5 shelters, and each has around 25 dogs. ):

Re: Puppy mills in Virginia Having worked for an Animal Protection Society , breeders sicken me ,there are so many non-pedigreed dogs put to sleep per year just because these people perpetuate the the belief that a pedigree is a better dog . Now I am not saying that pure breeds are not worthwhile . But I think all pet stores should be required to adopt out an equal number of "pound dogs" to purebred. I also think all pet stores should be required to have their dogs vet checked vaccinated and fixed prior to leaving the store. I also believe that all commercial pet sells should be followed by a inspector of some sort . And even if someone sells puppies privately they need to have a breeding permit or else be heavily fined.
