Pitbull accused of sexual assult

I just read this in my local newspaper. This Pitbull is apparently being accused of sexual assult. Here is the link to the news report.

This was the owner's fault, not the dog's. Don't leave your kids unattended with animals!

I agree one hundred percent, Daisy. In all honesty, 99% of the time, it's the owners fault. The most feasible reason for this dog's actions is that it was probably not properly socialized with children. While it's a shame that the child had to go through such a traumatic experience, check into the dog's DNA and background before euthanizing him. It's really quite sad that the spot light is shown on pit bulls once more, they don't need a worse name for themselves.

Well, I'm guessing the dog wasn't neutered, which should be a crime in itself. No one was injured, and the mother obviously left her baby alone with the pit bull. I don't see how people could possibly blame the dog, that's ridiculous. It's a dog, for goodness sake! It's just following it's natural instinct!

As for the "kill all pit bulls" remark, that is so typical and naive. People need to realize that the dog breed has a very small influence on its behavior. Yes, pit bulls require firm handling- as do a lot of breeds- but it is the owner's responsibility to handle their dog properly and enforce correct behavior. Pit bulls have a notoriously bad reputation, and I think there is a vicious cycle involved with that. People who want a violent dog choose a pit bull because of its reputation. Then they mistreat or neglect the dog, which CAUSES the dog to be violent. Then the dog attacks someone and it ends up all over the news, which adds to the pit bull's reputation even more.

Anyway, that's my opinion on the situation.

I would also like to add to Envisionary's point. While pit bulls are notorious for 'vicious attacks', they are bred to be non-human aggressive. In previous eras, when dog fighting was legal, pit bulls had to be bred to be friendly towards humans because the owner had to be able to step into the dog fighting ring with the dog. Now that the vicious sport is illegal, that trait is still being bred into the dogs. Anyone who has ever owned or worked with a soundly trained and socialized pit bull knows that they're clowns at heart and fiercely devoted to their owners. There is no such thing as a dog that is born 'bad'.

This is absolutely crazy. The woman shouldn't have left her naked child alone with a male dog, especially if the dog isnt neutered. I would be willing to bet you too that he is probably young and he's probably shown signs of promiscuity before (ya know, stuffed animals, legs, etc.). I think people need to step up and take more responsibility for the actions of their pets. 99% of the time when they do something wrong, its our own fault.

Something's fishy about this story. She left the room for "just a minute" and in that minute the dog ran up to where the kid was, took out his penis, and jammed it into an unlubricated, small rectum?

I think there's some underlying neglect and/or abuse going on here. If it weren't for the neighbors supposedly having seen the dog and the boy, I would have assumed the boy was abused by his father or other male human and the dog was a cover story. It does seem like at the very least the boy and the dog were left unattended for far longer than "just a minute".

What they really need is a human behaviorist to assess the owner!

It does sound fishy, they need to take samples of DNA of the dog and what the dog left on the child.
If it is true i feel so sad for the child, that would be horribly traumatic!

I agree with Salana, something is "fishy" about this. Its the families fault for leaving their naked child with an un-neautered dog like Piggystar said. This whole thing is ridiculous.

DNA was taken from the dog. I still feel the parents should be looked at for atleast neglect. A 2 year old child should never be left alone, not even for a second. My kids at that young age were never left alone, never!!. This whole story is just sickening. I never thought I would live to see the day a dog could be accused of sexual assult to a person, just unbelievable. I hope the news will do a follow-up on this story, I would love to see how this turns out.I feel bad for the child, having to go through surgery and possible other surgeries in the future. I'm sure the mother blames the dog and not herself for leaving the child alone like that.

What really kills me is the fact that this story will probably be infamous for years to come, but when a young dog was found muzzled and 'sexually assaulted' in our forest preserve last year, nothing was said in the news.

There was, apparently, major injury if the child may need reconstructive surgery in future. How did the dog get outside? Dragging a two year old child? Who are the neighbors? Are they reliable? It does sound like a cover story for a child molester. A toddler and an animal need to be supervised at all times. Most often the animal needs protection from the toddler who has no idea that poking the eye or twisting the nose can hurt. A two year old running naked is on two feet so the dog would have to knock the child down which would have caused enough noise from the child to bring any Mom running. This is coming from a mother of three who has bolted from the bathroom with pants around knees because something didn't sound right.

Why did they have an unneutered male pitbull in the same household as a two year old? All my dogs get neutered at the earliest possible age because I don't want to cause puppies, of course, and also because it lessens any trauma and helps prevent a male dog from developing too much mating behavior. Nothing intended against pitbulls here. Any strong unneutered male dog in a household with a small child is a very bad idea in my mind.
