| Body Shop Gone BAD?! I was looking up some information on L'oreal as my friend whose also against animal cruelty planned to dye her hair and I just remembered reading that L'oreal did animal testing (which they do: L'Oreal swallows The BodyShop (fading-hope.blog-city.com)) ![]() ![]() and I just learned that L'oreal bought The Body Shop!!! Caring Consumer // Information for Consumers // Consumer Products // The Body Shop and Tom's of Maine: Still Cruelty-Free BBC NEWS | Business | Body Shop agrees L'Oreal takeover Even though The Body Shop doesn't test their products on animals, the funds still go to L'oreal! WHYYYYYYYY!? Where is this world going to?I found these petitions about animal cruelty and L'oreal if you wish to sign against them: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/981566550 Stop Animal Testing Petition |

Re: Body Shop Gone BAD?! I don't know if you saw the previous comment I did on animal testing...I will just requote what I said in the other post, rather than rewrite it. "I am in veterinary technology school to get my CVT. I am currently enrolled in the Laboratory Animal Class. The early sections we had in our books were in regards to animal testing. I just found your quote interesting...because everything just about has to be tested on animals. Quoting my school book "Companies that sell products to a largely uneducated group of consumers often misuse the term "cruelty-free", and the phrase "we don't test on animals" as a marketing tool. These companies claim that they conduct no animal testing. The reality is that their products are either tested by an outside laboratory, which conducts the animal testing for them (so they can claim their company didn't actually conduct the animal testing- therefore being able to label that they do not test on animals), or are made of compounds known to be safe through previous animal testing." (Clinical Laboratory Animal Medicine... Karen Hrapkiewicz, DVM, MS, DACLAM... Leticia Medina, DVM, DACLAM). I just found this to be shocking. It states that there are laws that REQUIRE all products of certain natures to be tested on animals. So, when shampoo companies, and pharmaceutical companies claim they don't test on animals, they are full of it." So basically all companies test on animals (I am in the US, though, I don't know if this is different elsewhere)

Re: Body Shop Gone BAD?! There are some companies that make things of entirely natural ingredients, so they don't need to be tested for toxicity. In regards to using chemicals that have already been tested and found safe - good for those companies that don't feel the need to reinvent the wheel and torture a few animals just for the hell of it.

Re: Body Shop Gone BAD?! The Body Shop was bought over a while ago, I was really disappointed with them after their supposed hard line stance against animal testing. I now buy all my stuff from Lush which is completely against animal testing and uses 100% natural ingredients. So no, not all companies test on animals

Re: Body Shop Gone BAD?! [quote=Susan9608;299289]There are some companies that make things of entirely natural ingredients, so they don't need to be tested for toxicity. quote] The class has stated that even if the products are made of natural ingredients if they are of a certain nature they still have to be tested (by law in the united states) for the product to be on the shelves. I don't know how accurrate that is, though, it's just what the school is teaching us.

Re: Body Shop Gone BAD?! What about Burt's Bees? They say no animal testing and they use natural ingredients. I buy lots of their products for those reasons and because I like it. Does anyone know?

Re: Body Shop Gone BAD?! It seems to me that in this day and age we would be able to resort to something other than animal testing to determine the safety of products. We have the technology and scientific awareness to put a person on the moon, replace a beating heart, and send information across the world in seconds... yet we still have to test on animals for something as trivial as cosmetics? And if there aren't any readily available alternatives, it only means there has been a lack of research in that department. By no means is it necessary to continue the cruelty. Thank you, Fay, for your post because I will not be purchasing from L'oreal anymore.

Re: Body Shop Gone BAD?! The shower gels are fantastic and work really well as shampoo as well which can be a real money saver. I particularly like Flying Fox (jasmine, honey) and Sonic Death Monkey (chocolate, coffee, orange). American Cream conditioner is also to die for and the solid shampoos and bars work really well. The bubble bars are a must if you like baths, you only need to use a tiny bit each time so they last ages - Blue Skies, Karma and The Comforter are my faves. For a cleanser I don't think you can beat Angels on Bare Skin - I bought mine at the beginning of the year and there is still barely a dent in the tub and my skin has lost all its dryness and occasional spots. And the ultimate must have is Buffy (the Backside Slayer), a body scrub that makes your skin feel like you've never felt it before. Hey, they should be paying me for this!

Re: Body Shop Gone BAD?! Oh WOW I went into lush yesterday!!!!! I got the ultra bland cleanser, the celestial moisturiser, almond and coconut smoothie shower soap, a body moisturiser that you rub on moist skin, and a hard shampoo trichomania, and coolaulin conditioner! I have tried all but the hair products, I gotta say I am excited to try them but also unsure about using a shampoo bar, hmmmmmmmm. I could have gone crazy in that shop!

Re: Body Shop Gone BAD?! Just go for it with the shampoo bars - yu will love them! So funny to think you are on the other side of the world, but using the same shampoo! I didn't have much joy with the coolaulin conditioner - it left my hair feeling dry and matted - but otherwise, your choices sound right up my street! Let us know how you find them all!

And I totally second the Angels on Bare Skin. My face is super soft from using it. Feels smooth like my 4 years old son's skin. Also the jellies are awesome and last forever. I cut mine up into smal pieces and keep them in the freezer. When I use them I use them with those exfoliating gloves you can buy anywhere. It suds up real nice and my skin is glowing from it. |

Re: Body Shop Gone BAD?! I like the Big shampoo, but I've noticed that the longer I use it, the more dry my hair seems to be. I'm going to switch to some Aveda stuff (also all natural and cruelty free) for awhile to see if I can fix the dryness factor. I tried the trichomania shampoo bar, and while it lathers nicely and smells great, it also left my hair extremely dry. I use it as a body soap, though, because I love the smell. I don't care for any of lush's conditioners; again, my problem is dry hair, and none of them really condition enough. I use the CoalFace soap to treat acne, and then I use the Angels on Bare skin cleanser afterwards to prevent dryness. I love the way it smells, and it does make my skin very soft. I use Almond Kisses moisturizer around my eyes, and it's really helped with my dark circles. For soap, I like the Honey I Washed the Kids soap, but it can be very drying, so I also like the Alkaamar; the white jasmine scented bar. Very creamy. Buffy is THE BEST. Needless to say, I really like Lush. Fortunately, dear husband does, too, so he doesn't complain about the $$ I spend there. PM, do you not have a lush store in your neck of the woods? YOu can order stuff online ... not sure if it would melt, though.
