Re: Horrible conditions kind of near me. I just don't understand why people do such things. I am glad that the dogs and horse are at a better place and are getting treatment.

Re: Horrible conditions kind of near me. Were these people breeding dogs? Why would anyone keep dogs like that? I really totally don't understand. I'm glad this all came out and the dogs were taken. I like the story that has been in the news in West Hartford better. There is an elderly woman living alone who was reported by a neighbor for having a lot of dogs. Turns out she has over twenty ShihTzus, but all her dogs are groomed, well-fed and seen by the Vet regularly. Her house is clean and some of the dogs have special needs but they get proper care. The town wants the dogs gone but she is fighting in court to keep them. It hasn't been resolved yet and I agree that the woman has too many dogs but I also have to admire her for taking exemplary care of them. I hope she gets to keep several and gets to control the rehoming for the others. I'm throwing this story in here because it has been in the news but mostly because it's a nice change from the usual cruelty and neglect stories we see. Oh, my new avatar is Romeo my neutered male, formerly known as Toga. He's handsome but gets no respect from the girls.

Re: Horrible conditions kind of near me. Wow... that's near where my family lives, I graduated from Honesdale High School... I don't live there anymore. We got our dog from that shelter, and I'm glad that they got those animals out of there.

Re: Horrible conditions kind of near me. Wow, I never expected there to be so many people from Connecticut here. And seagirl, your Toga looks like my Toby! And on topic: I can't understand what people could possibly be thinking when they treat an animal is such a disgusting way. I was recently talking to an old friend of mine, who described how he loves to speed up when an animal is crossing the road and hit it. All of the ways that I could think of to respond to that would have landed me in jail, so I (as calmly as I could) asked him why he saw animals as something so expendable. He quickly changed the subject upon realizing that I was not going to think his real-life game of "Frogger" was the least bit amusing.

Re: Horrible conditions kind of near me. It's a very complicated situation. I hadn't seen him (only heard from him) in three years, and one day he asks me to hang out. He is my ex, so I didn't feel that it would be right to refuse. We were hanging out a second time when he told me this. I, admittedly, had entertained ideas of us possibly getting back together before this whole conversation about running animals over. Now I am positive that I would like him to remain my ex. Don't worry, I have more morals than to keep close to me someone who obviously has no sense of right and wrong. I would love to set him straight before I let him go, however, but he isn't exactly the type who takes to others opinions without question. I don't want to get off topic here, but what is one supposed to do when faced with a situation where someone they are casually close with informs them that they enjoy abusing animals? It's a sticky situation and I'd love for anyone to tell me how they would get "unstuck". I'm not into the idea of dropping friends simply because we have a different belief system, especially if there is a possiblity of me educating that person into believing what is right rather than what is easy. There is a major difference between reporting an abusive shelter and working on changing the ways of the people who ran that shelter. Does throwing them in jail for x number of years work, or should there be a harder slap on the wrist?

Re: Horrible conditions kind of near me. Anyone who enjoys hurting, abusing or killing animals has serious ISSUES and needs professional help. If you decide to tell your ex this, please do so in a public place. There is only one small step from enjoying hurting animals to hurting people. After you say something, please get away and stay away from this person. I knew someone in high school who hated cats and would try to run over them. When he got older his hobby was date rape. It is not unusual for someone who really wants to hurt people to start out by hurting animals. Please tell friends or parents about this person and STAY AWAY.

Re: Horrible conditions kind of near me. Wow, Seagirl, I never actually considered what this might develop into, but you bring out a good point. Thanks, I think I'll follow your advice!

Re: Horrible conditions kind of near me. I agree with seagirl; Those who enjoy hurting animals need professional help. I could never talk to someone like that because yes, once they start hurting animals they will hurt humans and whatever else gets in their way.
