Chapelcross Power Station Demolition

We live not far from the Chapelcross Power Station, with it's landmark four cooling towers, which have stood for nearly 50 years. This morning at 9am, they came down. Up bright and early, we went to watch this historic moment.

Got caught by a LOT of traffic, so took the 'low road', and beginning to panic as time was creeping on, took the first exit where the towers were visible! Joined by a nice old English lady, and several other late-comers, we watched the towels tumble!

I did have my camera with me - but deciding to change the batteries, incase they ran out, forgot to zoom back in, thus the distant footage, to say the least. There was no warning - so I suppose I am lucky to have captured it atall - but you know that feeling of 'if only...'!

Anyway - here we go:

"During" (video)

Re: Chapelcross Power Station Demolition

It was actually quite an emotional moment, and as we wove our way through the windy lanes, we came across half of the south west of Scotland, there to see the spectacle! Quite amazing.

After much getting lost (where had that well-known landmark gone?!), we ended up several hours later right at the Chapelcross power station itself! There were lots more people - and one of the towers had stubbornly refused to come down!

A wee bit closer this time, here are some pics:

We stayed quite a while, during which time, a construction vehicle started the process of demolishing the remains - with really eerie sound effects - but we didn't see it fall.

A day worth getting up early for!

Cool! I can't believe those towers are gone, I didn't know anything about it! I had it in my head that you lived in Falkirk, don't know why!
