Another case of ill-informed owners/breeders? Who knows. Thank goodness they were found, and most are recovering, and will be rehomed. Full marks to the dog-owner for rounding them up - can't begin to imagine how you could catch 15 frightened guinea pigs in a field.

Thanks for sharing.

Ugh! Those two in the picture were so cute, I don't know how anyone could just abandon their own pets. That's horrible- two had to be put to sleep...Thank goodness that person was able to catch them all before it was too late.

Poor little things. Thank goodness the dog walker was so persistent and kind--you're right it must have been a difficult job to round them up. I also read the story on that page about the pigeon who was rescued, and it made my day. I love pigeons, and they're too often overlooked or shunned.

Re: 15 Guinea Pigs Dumped in a field

I hope the dog walker found them all. My newest piggy, Hope was about to be "set free" in a park when my friend found out and stopped the owners. Guinea pigs are not wild animals to be set free!

I'm sorry, I know everyone here realizes this but I get so UPSET when people are stupid and cruel like that. I have no idea what Hope went through before my friend grabbed her, but she ws literally frozen in terror. I thought she was paralyzed. My son thought she was brain damaged. She had been an Easter present to a six year old boy.

Re: 15 Guinea Pigs Dumped in a field

I love pigeons too.
There are homing pigeons near where I live. The person has a special cage/bird coop set up and they are out flying all day and then come home at night. I wondered for awhile why there were pigeons flying around and around our roof. Then one day I went for a walk and happened to look in someone's yard and saw a coop. I was like "hmmmm" Then later I noticed pigeons on the roof of the house.

I'm really glad those guinea pigs were found. Sigh...sometimes people are so heartless. It saddens me that people think of guinea pigs as disposable pets. They are missing out when they don't open their hearts to how unique guinea pigs are and how lovely they are.

Re: 15 Guinea Pigs Dumped in a field

My oldest sow, was found in the middle of an intersection on a busy road. She was so frozen in terror she couldn't move. A moterist was able to pick her up and take her to the local Humane Society. Just 2 days ago, some jerk left 2 puppies in a box by the road labeled puppies. People just don't get it. Animals aren't to be thrown away!!!!! We, I believe are here to love and protect them. All of them.
Poor GP's. A big thanks the walker had the heart to save them.
Reading all the other articles. It just breaks ones heart. Stupid.stupid people that continure to hurt animals. It just makes me raving mad!!!!

Re: 15 Guinea Pigs Dumped in a field

People can just be so ignorant sometimes. They let domesticated animals go 'free' because they think instinct will just take over and they'll know how to survive on their own. They can't! They are domesticated! That means they were raised to live among humans and be dependant on them! It's just
ignorance, like I said. Ignorance and selfishness.
