There has been a lot of publicity today around the Scottish SPCA's campaign to end puppy farming misery. They are asking the public to avoid buying puppies from puppy farms/mills. Unfortunately they do mention buying from a 'reputable breeder' - though also suggest adopting from animal welfare centres. BBC NEWS | Scotland | Bid to end puppy farm 'misery' |

It seems to be spreading around the world. There was an article in my local newspaper about stopping puppy farms in NJ and putting much stricter regulations on breeding dogs and cats. (Now they just need to do the same with small animals!) Most pet stores in the state get their puppies from Lancaster, which is the puppy farm capitol of the northeast. They have no animal cruelty laws and treat their animals like they're just there for the people. A3401 |

I don't know how many documentaries have been made to try and expose puppy farms, who transport the dogs from Ireland to the UK in car boots, via long ferry journeys. Most of the puppies got there dead. It's disgusting, and yet people are still stupid enough to buy them. It's idiot people who are as much to blame. Why do we live in a society of imbeciles? Grrrargh. |
