Thumbs down Dog fur used in coats

This morning, I heard that some people were caught using dog fur in their coats. I didn't hear the full thing, though, because it was on right before I left this morning. Has anyone else heard about this?

Re: Dog fur used in coats

I read about this on Guinea Lynx last week, here is the link to the CNN article: Humane Society: 'Faux fur' often animal hair - CNN.com

The highlights of which are:

• Humane Society found 24 of 25 "faux fur" jackets made from dog hair
• Fur is taken from the raccoon dogs native to Asia and Northern Europe
• Jackets sold in major department stores, Humane Society says
• Lawmakers introducing legislation that would ban import of raccoon dog fur

I don't know how on earth that is legal

Re: Dog fur used in coats

That's wrong that they don't have to lable the products correctly. I hope the law gets changed.

On a similar note, some people keep the hair they groom off of their own dogs (mainly long haired), and when they have enough, it is knitted into a sweater, scarves or whatever. Sometimes it is combined with rabbit or another type of wool.

It is even more disturbing to find out the animals are not even dead before they are skinned. That is disgusting and sick.

Re: Dog fur used in coats

That is sick! Someone should skin them alive IMO.

I do not buy anything with real or fake fur. I can keep warm without any kind of fur products and I certainly don't need to make a fashion statement to anyone.

Re: Dog fur used in coats

I wrote a email of protest and sent it. Those poor animals being skinned alive is horrific. I didn't want the video, the description was enough. This is going to stay with me for awhile.

Re: Dog fur used in coats

For the Racoon dog video, I almost cried, if this was the first animal torture video I have ever seen I would be bursting into tears. Now I am used to seeing the truth and I still don't exept it, but I am not going to cry, I am going to be strong and stand up for these poor animals. My dad always goes to China for work (working with bearings and metals) and he tells me stories that everyone else finds funny. For instince, when two of my brothers went with him they said a lady held up a live shark asking if they wanted it and when the said yes, she started beating it on the ground and with a club. Also, since they are hunters they wanted to use bowen arrows, but they used them to kill chickens for a restaurant, one chicken wasn't dieing, it was trying to be strong and it survived three arrows. I do though somewhat agree with hunting as long as it is in season and there is a good amount of population where you hunt. I very much disagree with hunting to make money, my family never tortures animals, they just hunt them humanely as possible, I guess. Don't worry I am trying to become a veg. so I don't eat what they hunt (if anything) Also another thing is one time my dad said he fed alligators in a WELL by tossing LIVE defeathered ducks to the alligator. Before I never really thought about it in a cruel way as long as I was happy and alive, I was so selfish and now feel guilty about some of the things I actually thought were funny. Anyways, I pray for all the racoon dogs, and ALL the other animals that are suffering out there in ways I'm sure God did not intend for and I hope that someday I can make a HUGE difference in the world by helping animals.

Please sign this petition to help end this disgusting trade. Also there is a letter on that page that you can print off and send.

I would also like this opportunity to mention those pompom scarves that are all the rage in the UK at the moment. Many people are unaware that these are made from rabbit fur. They are often sold for as little as £5 on market stalls but even those are real fur.

I signed it and then posted the link on my myspace for others to see.

I have about 300 friends on there, so maybe I can help put at least 20 or more signatures on the list.

Re: Dog fur used in coats

Maybe the dogs weren't (gulp) skinned . On Rypleys (believe it or not) one lady used her own hair and her dogs then weaved it and made a sweater. So maybe thats what it was, a dogs hair, just shaved off and used...

manypet-i-have
I am not exactly sure what you are trying to say. The dogs were definetly skinned, they provided a link to Wikipedia and that link provided another link to somewhere showing graphic pics of a poor racoon dog being beat, feet getting chopped off, and skinned ALIVE. Sorry if I got the wrong message from what you said, it was kind of confusing.

Oh, I also think I signed. I just put a J for the first letter in my name because I don't give personal info for anything.

Re: Dog fur used in coats

It's gross, isn't it? And dog fur is really no worse than any other fur, like fox, raccoon, or rabbit. I've definitely watched my share of animal fur/skinning videos. I'll never forget one I watched; it was in a Chinese fur farm and they were skinning foxes and bear cubs. They would skin them alive (no painkillers, nothing) and then toss the still breathing, bleeding, awake, alive carcass into a bin. Many of the bodies in the bins were still moving around and trying to escape. I simply cannot imagine their suffering. That would be like someone ripping your scalp off.

I have nothing that is fur, but I do have a faux fur comforter. I know that it is fake though; it feels fake, and you can see on the back how they attached it; the "fake" look. It is so warm and soft, and it's silky on the other side. Although I wouldn't ever wear any fur, real or faux (I think it looks pretty tacky anyways), I think if people want to have fur, wearing faux fur is better than wearing real fur. But no one sees me at my house all snuggly in my comforter, so I'm okay with that.

Anyways, I signed the petition, and I just wanted to add that if anyone has any fur coats, scarfs, muffs, blankets, or anything, that they don't want anymore, you can donate them to PETA. They use them in their campaign against fur, and some of the coats and such are donated to high poverty areas, such as Africa and the middle East, where people can't afford anything to keep themselves and their children warm, and they actually have a bit of an excuse to use the fur.

Fur Is Dead > This Diva Doesn't Do Fur

And if anyone else wants to further help the fur cause, or watch more videos, pictures, campaigns, etc, check out PETA's fur site.

Re: Dog fur used in coats

I thought landhermie was asking if anyone knew about dog fur being used in coats so I was explaining what I saw on a show and that maybe that was what he/she (?) was asking. Sorry .
