Rest in peace, Stormy
My piggy died this morning, I've been crying since. We loved each other very much and he relied on me to make sure he'd get better, I feel like such a failure. Stormy was such a sweet guinea pig, I've had him almost two years and he's my first. He started acting strange a few days ago, even before the symptoms showed I could tell he wasn't feeling well. He quite squealing when I brought his favorite carrots or played the song he liked so much, his eyes started crusting and he quit eating and playing. I went to a vet almost 60 miles away (we live in a very rural area) and bought Critical Care mix, which he ate when I fed it to him. But still he wasn't getting any better. I had an appointment for today to see the vet with him, he died about an hour ago. I miss him so much and I don't think I can ever replace him, he's been a huge part of my life since I bought him as a baby. My parents loved him (which is rare for them to love one of my pets), my friends always came over to play with him and feed him, my boyfriend loved him so much he'd sit and feed him for hours and talk about how cute Stormy was. I wish I could have done more, I really feel like Stormy would still be here if it weren't for my stupidity.

^A photo shoot we did over Christmas, he was so handsome^

^A few months after I got him, he was so tiny then^

^My first picture of him, he truly was a little bundle of joy. I didn't know then that he would be such an important part of my life for the next two years^
Rest in peace Stormy Poo, I hope I made your life as amazing as you made mine. I'm sorry

I am so sorry for your loss. Stormy was a beautiful baby. Please don't feel like you failed him. You did everything you could to save him. You certainly did make his life amazing. I can feel how much you loved him by what you wrote about him. He will always be with you in your heart. Hugs to you at this difficult time.

Oh how handsome. I'm sorry for your loss, and I know it's not easy loosing a pet especially the first guinea pig. Don't feel like a failure or stupid because it was your first guinea pig, it sounds like you did everything you could. And no you can never replace a pet that you've loved, but perhaps someday once you're heart has healed you'll be ready to try caring for a guinea pig again.
I was eight when my first guinea pig, Brownie, died. It's been 14 years and now I have Sherlock and Holmes. I still love and miss Brownie, but now I have two boys that I love.

The hole in your heart may never be filled, but the love he leaves behind will help patch it up. Hold onto the memories...he's never truly gone unless you forget to remember his sweet face and the wonderful things he did for you while he was here.
My prayers to you during this difficult time.

Re: Rest in peace, Stormy
Thank you all so much for the support. I'm glad I posted this, your kind words and advice are making this a lot easier. Stormy will always have a chunk of my heart, I never knew how much a tiny fuzzy animal could impact my life so much. Were all mourning Stormy here in North Texas...he's touched a lot of people's hearts and I'm so proud of my baby boy

Re: Rest in peace, Stormy
deluna, I know the heartbreak of losing a beloved guinea pig. It's really hard to go through. I know you feel like it's your fault but guinea pigs just hide their symptoms until it's almost too late. I can tell from your post that had you known how sick he was, you would have done everything you could to make him get better. You did everything you could.
Have you seen the "Rainbow Bridge" poem? It was very helpful to me when I lost one of my guinea pigs.

Sorry this post is late, thankyou CavyMama for the positive message. I still miss him and think about him every single day.
I would have done anything to save him, he's in a better place now and I hope he knows I tried my best.
That is a very inspiring poem
