Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I moved into a different house today. In order to move Gizmo, I put him in one of those "Live Animal" carboard boxes. Him and his cage was in the first of two loads. The plan was to move his C&C cage in one piece, but unfortuneately it fell apart on the trailer. My brother couldn't help for long, so we decided to finish moving everything over, which couldn't of been more than an hour and a half, MAX. After we got everything in the house, I went upstairs to go check on him, to find that he had passed away. I assume that he over heated, but it wasn't all that hot in the house. In fact, just last night I couldn't figure out how to set the thermostat, and I came in to find the house at a freezing 54 degrees. He might of just been stressed from being in that box. I feel horrible, and miss him so much already. He was a good pal. |

Oh I'm sorry for your loss. I couldn't imagine finding something like that. I wish there was more I could say. Someone once told me do not dwell on the past, grieve for your friend but always remember the good times and not the bad, and always look to the future. Don't beat yourself up, because there is nothing that can be done now. Always remember the good time. RIP GIZ, May you be happy where you are. |

Oh sweetie, I'm so sorry. Don't blame yourself. Sometimes these things happen, even to the best and most stellar of owners, sometimes it happens to just us average joe owners too. I'm sure you would not do anything to harm your little furry friend, and when you are ready, you will be able to give a new friend a forever home. Rest now, Gizmo, we'll see you later, okay? |

I agree with Wodentoad, it may be totally unrelated to your moving house. It's so sad when a beloved pet passes away and you have all my sympathy. |

So sorry for your loss. He's at Rainbow Bridge now with lots of buddies...all happy and healthy and free. And My Coco and My Sunshine are taking good care of him. Easier said than done, I know, but don't blame yourself. It might have been going to happen anyway...move or not. R.I.P. Awwwww, I'm sorry to hear about that, that's so tragic and unexpected and I know a shock to you, like everyone else has said, don't beat yourself up about it, nothing can be done, grieve and take your time to get settled and you will be able to give another homeless piggie love and a wonderful home!! |

Thank you for all of your comments. This has been especially hard for me since I moved from a house and neighborhood that I absolutley adored, to ones that I am completely unsure of. I did it all for family. I know that Gizmo is in a happy place right now, playing with Chuckles and every other piggie that has passed. When I got him from the pound a year ago, they said that he was 4 (so he was 5), so it could have just been old age and stress, but he was so healthy. I will get myself another pig. I've already called the pound, but they didn't have any in. Secretively though, I'm not ready quite yet. They are such a joy and a good companion animal to have around. |

Awww. If you click on the camera and view my gallery, Gizmo is the second picture. He is the brown and white pig. Chuckles was the tri-colored pig. They were both rescues. |

khptown, I understand your pain so mcuh. My own little lance died, without warning, while I was on holidays. I felt really guilty too, I thought he was sad that I left him to a stranger . Like with many other prey animals, an ill guinea pig's symptoms are often hard to read for the untrained eye. I think it may be a survival mechanism, I don't know. In any case, it is not your fault. Gizmo seemed to have been a much loved guinea pig, and now, he's in guinea pig land where he can poop and wee where he wants, walking in lettuce field, where bell peppers grow everywhere I know how you feel about replacing Gizmo. I felt the same after Lance's death. And only time will help. I'm sorry, I'm not really good with words. But I hope you understand that you're not guilty. |

So sorry to hear about Gizmo. But try not to beat yourself up about it. He may have just died from old age like you said he was 5 years old and im sure that you took very good care of him and that he lived a happy life! He is with all the other piggys living happily in piggy heaven. RIP Gizmo x x x x |
