When giving my girls their morning salad, I found a stillborn baby tucked in a pigloo. After having them checked by my vet, I learned that the baby was Olive's and her only one. You may have read about our situation here. I'm so sad for that baby, though I am counting my blessings that Olive is recovering well. I can't help but feel responsible...if only I had been awake to help her remove the sack or to rub the pup he or she wouldn't have had to die (assuming they weren't born dead). Today has just been an awful day. Thanks for letting me share how I feel; I haven't had a chance to really talk about all of this yet.       |

I am so sorry for your loss ;( Hopefully tomorrow brings a brighter day. Don't be too tough on yourself, you have no idea if there was anything you could have done. It was way better for her to have her baby here with you than alone in a shelter. *hug* |

Please don't blame yourself. Guinea pigs are notorious for giving birth at odd times when we're not able to be there. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how bad it hurts to lose one of our little ones. May he/she rest in peace. |

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm very happy to hear the moms are both okay though. Don't blame yourself, you did the best you could and all those piggies are very lucky to have you as their owner. |

Thank you so much, each of you. I really feel comforted by your words! It's so nice to have a community of people who love guinea pigs too and understand what it means to hurt for our pets when they have these difficult situations. Did all of you get a chance to view my gallery? Ophelia had her pups this morning! There are two, and sweet Olive is being a good aunt. She's nursing them too and teaching them about the cage. It seems to have been very healing for Olive to have babies to nurse and I'm so glad that Ophelia's delivery was healthy! |

It sounds like a ray of sunshine through the dark clouds. Our Ruby just lost her baby (she was three years old). Luckily Ruby is spayed, due to ovarian cyst surgery, and Otus was able to live with her to keep her company and help her through her grief and heartache (ours won't heal for quite a while though). I'm so glad there is new life in your home to help you and Olive through the loss. |
