Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0
3 1/2 years ago, I was pulling into a petsmart parking lot on a crisp December evening, to take my fpster dog to her weekly training class. The only open spot in the lot was blocked by a buggy, so I moved it, and then parked my car. I took the buggy with me into the store (it was closer than taking it to the cart corral), and started toward my class. That's when I noticed the box in the buggy. The box was moving. A Petsmart employee and I opened the box, only to discover a scared, and VERY cold, Aby guinea pig inside. Written on the inside of the lid was "Free Guinea Pig. His name is Phil". "Okay," I told him, picking him up and trying to warm him in my coat. "Your name is Phil". I took him home with me, and we set him up in the only cage we had available at the time (a dog crate), with torn up newspaper for bedding. We did alot wrong over the next two years, but eventually we found this site. We got him a buddy. We built him a cage. We got him on a better food. We were blessed with 3 years of his calm, cool "whatever dude!" demeanor, and he passed away in his sleep in September of '08. We don't know how old he was when we found him (already very much an adult-- by his toenails and teeth, etc, the vet was guessing at least 3). We miss him. |

Holy cow, I can't believe you found him in a box outside PetSmart! You're a special kind of person for taking Phil in. I hope the sweet memories of Phil help comfort you during the hard times. |

From what you described, Phil was meant to be found by you, your paths were designed to cross because what ever force brought the two of you together, was because it was known you were going to provide a loving home to him. Things in life happen for a reason, most of which just can't be explained, you finding him was his second chance to a good life. You did a great job or he wouldn't have lived so long. Phil may have passed, but there will always be a part of him that stays behind, maybe not so much the things that are tangible, but the love that you developed for him and the memories that will always remain forever with you. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know the pain of loosing a beloved piggy, a friend, someone that takes away the sadness of a bad day just by the feeling of the softness of their fur and the sounds made from the pleasure of being held and cuddled. I wish my pigs understood how I love them, but their kindness towards me when held in a subtle way makes me feel they do. God bless you and Phil |
