Hi everyone. Um ,tommorow I have to put down my hamster Harley. She has been dealing with cancer for a month or so now. There was no way to operate on it but only medicine that we can no longer afford because its $50 every week. I bought 1 round before we realized that it wasn't reducing any, but only getting bigger. Harley was from a petstore. She was only 3 months old and had childhood cancer. My brother bought her from a petstore against my will and then when he didn't take care for her, I got her. Next I will definetly go and get one from a rescue. This is a link to a slide show that I made. She isn't even gone yet, but still I feel horrible. The tumor hasn't been bothering her ever, until now. It is making it difficult for her to walk, it has a scab on it, and the skin is tight. I will miss her dearly. I'm sorry to hear that. Sometimes there is only so much we can do to help our pets. I'm sure she appreciated being in your care for the time she was. I hope you two enjoyed your last moments together, despite the circumstances. From the pictures she looked like a real cutie Take care |

God, my heart goes out to you. Your slideshow is wonderful and so sweet and Harley is precious and beautiful. Thank you for letting her know what it feels like to be loved. Even though she was only here on earth a short time, I'm sure her spirit will never forget you. You're both in my prayers. |

My heart goes out to you! This is truely a difficult thing to go through, but you should remember that the life Harley had with you was truely remarkable! You took her in when your brother wasn't caring for her and you gave her a better life! The short time she had on earth will live with you, in your heart, forever! Smile and think about all the other animals that she will be with somewhere over the rainbow, and know that she will no longer have to hurt! |

Ok, I have finally composed myself enough to tell my story. We took Harley to the vet, and she died peacefully in her little home. She was always a fighter and hung on for about 20 minutes. She constantly got out of her cage, and made the cat scared to death of her. She scared my mom half to death quite a few times, and always had something on her brain of what to do next. So I have been just living my life as well as possible without my girl. After school this Friday, we went to a local store down the road. I bought notebooks for school and a few other things. The woman asked me if I had a lot of homework. I told her that I only had science fair that was due soon. My mom told her about my project which is a hamster music system. Where a hamster runs on a wheel and music turns on and they run to it. It’s pretty cool! Anyway, she asked if we needed any more hamster power. My mom said that our hamster died on Tuesday and we were seeking out another one. She gave us her phone number and we left. My mom called her earlier today and told us to come by after 4:00. We went to her house and she had about five 6 month old dwarf hamsters. We chose ours and headed home. When she was all settled in her double cage mansion we left her be so she could get some rest etc. When I came back up later, there was only 1 cage. My cat had knocked over the other cage and the hamster was missing. (I would have left the door shut, but my cat won’t even bother flies). Shocked, I found her in my brothers room, lifeless, but still breathing. The story doesn’t end here folks! I put her in her cage and let her be so she could die in peace (it was that bad). I came back about 2 hours later, and she was up running on her wheel as happy as can be! She now only has 1 cage and the cat is permanently locked out. Her name is Mickie after Muriel “Mickie” Siebert. She moved to America with only $500.00 and she was jobless. In a year, she owned her own banking firm. She was in a book of 100 people who changed America and I thought she had a cute nickname. This pretty much sums up my last week! |

I'm so sorry about your baby that died. I'm also very happy that you adopted a new baby. The dwarf hamsters can become so affectionate. I had one named Jynx a few years ago that would come to the door of the cage and beg to be let out and held. |

My new girl does that too! I found that the "normal" cage was too small so I put her in my old pig cage, a Zoo Zone 1. She is having fun and the walls are strictly plastic so she can't escape! She is happy, and is now eating some veggies! |
