I never ever ever wanted to start this thread, but I'm afraid I have to. Percy is gone. I never even realized he was sick. Yesterday before I went to work, he was sleeping in his pigloo which is a little abnormal for my pigs in the morning, but not unheard of. I thought something might be amiss, but erroneously brushed it off thinking that maybe he was just having an off morning. He even let me pick him up and give him scratches on his chin and around his crest. He knew what was about to happen better than I was able to admit to myself and let me have that one last moment with him. In my heart I knew that he was going, and I feel horrible for letting him down.

Percy was my first guinea pig and obviously the source of my name both here and on GL. He would have been 4 in May.

I'll love you and miss you forever baby.

Thanks both of you. Especially thank you to hydrohoki for being so great and supportive last night right when I found Percy. I did get a little bit of sleep from about 1:45-6:30 this morning.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

It doesn't sound to me like you let him down at all! You loved him and he loved you to the end. And for the years he was with you, he was in a very tiny percentage of the luckiest, happiest Guinea Pigs on Earth.

If you feel you let him down because you didn't realize how sick he was and take him to a vet, well, you never know what might have happened. The vet might not have been able to make any difference, so it's very possible your mistake just meant he was able to die in his familiar, stress-free environment! It sounds like he passed as peacefully as a Guinea Pig can.

Oh, PM. I'm so sorry. No, I do not think you let him down at all. They hide symptoms all too well. You were able to shower him in affection one last time, and I'm sure he passed peacefully and in comfort. Hugs of sympathy from me and my crew.
