Our Darling Cuzzy

Just a note to say we lost our darling Sheltie boar on Friday. He had been ill since the end of October with a possible URI and an ear infection. He had his antibiotics and seemed to be improving. I even bought him a cage mate as he was a lone pig for a while.

On Thursday after being a lot better and playing with Eccles he went down hill rapidly and he lost 3oz in weight. His fur also was falling out a little. I gave him some critical care and he ate some greens but by morning I found him under a box I had made for him and Eccles to play with and he was struggling for life.

Peter (hubby) put him in a box and comforted him, by this time he was running to the bridge. An hour later he had gone. His passing has left us devestated, he was only 5 months old and I feel so bad, I feel guilty that I could have done more but he was fine with Eccles and was eating, it was so sudden.

I am beginning to think he had other problems, perhaps a genetic defect, he was always very small but he had such a big heart and could not be replaced.

Re: Our Darling Cuzzy

Wow I'm really sorry for your loss. Just for a side note you may want to bring in the other cagemate into the vet to make sure he didn't catch anything from his friend. But I'm again so sorry for your loss. RIP little one.

Re: Our Darling Cuzzy

Thanks for your kind words. Yep I took Eccles on Friday to the vets and he is fine, no change in him at all. Also must also mention when I said I 'bought' Eccles I got him from a vets, his mum had been abandoned before she had her pups and she lived in the vets until she had them (they run a small animal rescue out the back) So I rung on the off chance of them having pigs and that's how I got Eccles.

Cuzzy was a pet shop pig, the last one that I 'bought' and I am convinced his poor health was down to inbreeding, he hadn't been a well pig from day one. Guess we will never know for sure but I'm a little obsessed with thinking of that at the mo.
