We'll miss you Josey

This afternoon we had to put our first piggy Josey to sleep. He had been neutered a month ago and a couple of days later he bit one of his toes off. We have had him in an E-collar with ab's and pain meds for almost 3 weeks. Today I took his collar off so I could wash it and his foot, I forgot a wash cloth so I went to the kitchen(next room) and when I came back the next toe was gone, so was a large chunk of his foot, and the scab from the other toe. There was so much blood oh my poor guy. What must he have been going through to do that to himself. I feel just awful. I couldn't keep him in that condition. I'm afraid he may not ever have stopped and the collar I couldn't leave that on him forever. I just hope he popcorned over the rainbow bridge into fields of hay and lettuce!
