My precious Susie-Q passed away this afternoon. I wasn't there for when it happened but I came home to her in her igloo with Caramel sleeping by her. I feel...so lost for words. Right now I just feel numb by it and it doesn't seemed like she's gone but she is. She was at the ripe age or eight. I had, had her for six years of her life and we have been through so much. When I first got her I didn't give her a good life but the past year or two I have given her a better life. She was a sweet, small, and just precious guineapig. She would be the first one wheeking for food and everything. She was going blind in one of her eyes. But she died away I hope in a peaceful sleep. I miss her so much I'm just...a bit lost for words. She was my little Susie-Q and I will miss her. She was in my herd with two other girls and I'm sure they will miss her to. Tulia was like a daughter to her. She met Susie when she was eight weeks. But easter has been horrible to me and...I'm at loss of words. I will miss you forever greatly Susie. ![]() ![]() ![]() Good bye Susie...you will always be in my heart.

Re: Easter was not good to my this year. I am so sorry to hear your sad news about Susie, she was a really lovely girl, and your care saw her well into old age. It is never easy to lose a beloved pet - but it seems doubly harsh when it comes on a holiday celebration. Thinking of you. ![]() RIP Susie

Re: Easter was not good to my this year. Thank-you everyone. Today just...has been very down and I'm just having a hard time with this. Has anyone ever buried in the snow before or is it even possible? I want the proper place for her so...I'm just trying to figure it out. Even though it kills me to talk about this.

Re: Easter was not good to my this year. I am so sorry for your loss, but 8 years? Wow! What a wonderful, long life for a lucky piggy who was obviously well cared for and very well loved! I hope all of your fond memories carry you through this difficult time.

Re: Easter was not good to my this year. Thank-you. I look through the pictures I posted and it's still hard for me to believe she's actually gone. Man this is the worst part into growing so attached to these little guys. But I do have a question. I have snow out outside and usually I burry mine but what would I do now? I have snow right now so what would I do?

Re: Easter was not good to my this year. If you are unable to bury her due to the snow now, you could put her body in a ziplock and store her in the freezer until the ground is clear. That might skiive some people out, but that's what I would do... -S

Re: Easter was not good to my this year. Put her in the freezer...like food freezer...I don't think I could do it. I will have to find the proper place somehow for her tomorrow.

Re: Easter was not good to my this year. I'm so sorry about Susie. I'm sure she had a wonderful life and was loved very much. At 8 years old, I wouldn't doubt that she passed peacefully and with no pain, from old age. When I got my first pig, my mom asked a very unsensitive question like, "Will you cry when it dies?" And I said, "I don't think I will be that sad over such a small animal like a guinea pig." Now I know better. When the time comes, I'm sure I will be very upset and cry. My pigs have become some of my best friends, in fact I consider all of my pets "friends". And when you lose one of your friends, how can you not be upset? ...RIP Susie...

Re: Easter was not good to my this year. If the ground beneath the snow is totally frozen, you will find it hard to dig atall. I do hope you manage, but if not, about the only option is to freeze her (unless you take her to the vet). It does sound awful - but nature will take it's course otherwise. You could pop the bag into a box, and put that in the freezer too? I know when one of my first pigs died, the ground was frozen solid, so we took her to the vet. It's not an easy one atall, but I can't think of another option I'm afraid.

Re: Easter was not good to my this year. Our vet does do cremations, and your pet is returned to you in a very nice wooden box with a brass plaque on with their name. We did this with our cat as it was very snowy - it means that you can have the funeral when the ground has cleared. I am sure someone would look after the casket for you if you can't bear to have it in the house. Otherwise, you could try clearing the snow and pouring kettles of hot water on the ground, digging some soil away and then more hot water. It would take a while, but it should work. Eight years is a marvellous age - well done for being such a good owner. My best wishes to you.
