Goodbye Sweet Wynnie

I went in to feed, water, scratch, and cuddle everyone this morning and found Wynnie passed away, cuddled up in the grass ball in her cage. She was always a very sweet little girl and we took to each other right away. She even ran and jumped into my hand the first time we met when she used to nip at her original owner anytime she tried to pick Wynnie (then named Goldy) up. We were together a bit over a year since I took her into my family when her original owner moved to New Orleans to help family after Hurricane Katrina.

I know I've posted this picture before, but this was always my favorite picture of my little girl.

Oh, Liz, my heart dropped when I saw this thread. I'm so sorry. Thanks for giving Wynnie a great home for the remainder of her life. She was lucky to have such a great mommy.

I am so, so sorry. I barely got to know the Wynnie girl. I am sorry, sorry, sorry that she had to go. I am glad she got to go snuggled up in her grassyhut.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I have a huge soft spot for goldne hamsters. One of the best pets I have ever had was a golden and she was a sweetheart too. Hopefully they are together over the rainbow bridge.

What a sweet little hammy. I will always remember my little hamster, Cinnamon, that I had as a child. I cried so hard when she died. My heart goes out to you.

I had the same reaction . Do you have any idea what could have caused it? Are you going to get a necropsy? At any rate I'm very sorry to hear this too, I know you love all your animals very much, and I'm sure Wynnie knew it too. So sad to hear of babies going over the rainbow bridge...I rarely come to this particular forum for that reason but this thread caught my eye so I had to respond. ((((hugs)))))

No, I decided not to have a necropsy done on her. She was somewhere between 2 and 3 years old, and I honestly think it was her time, and she knew it. The way I found her, I don't think she was in any pain or suffered at all when she passed away. I had set a treat in her grass ball tunnel for her before I went to bed the night before, and it appears that she crawled out of her hidey and across the cage to get the treat when she woke up, got to the grass ball, and that's where she stayed. The treat was gone, and she looked perfectly peaceful when I took her out of the cage.
