I got the grids for the stand at Bed Bath & Beyond (not sure if you have on near you). Stay away from target grids as they're too big and piggies can get their heads stuck or hurt themselves. Some may be safe, but I'd stick with BB&B if you can. Also, I believe Kmart has some online that you could get. I got two boxes of the gray from BB&B and they were 14.99 each. I still have some left over (though I did have extra white grids from when I built the cage portion). All together the grid stand takes 23 grids (I just counted), not including the grids to make a bottom on the cage. Mine is a 2x5 so the grids to make a bottom to the cage (which then becomes the middle with the grid) takes 10 grids. It wasn't too hard to make. I'm weak so I used a hammer, and my dad, to help me get the grids in the connectors. Then I secured most of them with cable ties just to be safe.
