What are the symptoms of a URI ?
My guinea pig has had "sleepies" or "crusties" around his eyes for a long time, almost a year or more, but I've never thought anything of it. Is it bad? could it mean something? also i was holding him today and i heard a little whistle i his breathing not to bad but i still heard it when i was close to him. When i put him down he hopped around like usual and i couldn't hear the whistle. What are the symptoms of a URI? should i be worried about his eyes? anything i should look out for? Is it possible i could be feeding him too much of something? Please tell me everything you know !

That's been happening to me too. My Lilly gets crusty's around her eyes and not the other one! I'm not sure what could be wrong.

This is all about eyes; http://www.guinealynx.info/eyes.html . Could mean a number of things. As far as the breathing goes, I don't know but I will be watching the thread to find out.

Re: What are the symptoms of a URI ?
If he's had crust around an eye for a year, it's not likely to be an URI. It's probably the dried cleaning fluid that they use to groom themselves.
Keep listening for the whistle, and if it gets worse, or becomes constant, you can make a vet appointment early next week. But I doubt it's connected to the eye problem.
Symptoms of URI are runny eyes and nose, sneezing, coughing, acting like they're not feeling well.

he hasn't whistled in a while now! he and my other guinea pig occasionally sneeze but they just continue like nothing happened. None of those other symptoms though! :)
