Exclamation V-Shaped Hair Loss Video: Mites?

I know that my Abby, Big Sis', most likely has Mites. I wanted some more opinions though.

Go to about 52 seconds to see it really good. Does this look like Mites to you?

    __

How should I go about treating with Ivermectin? I know about proper dosage and whatnot. But I need to know where to get it. Can I get any kind of Ivermectin for any animal, like horse Ivermectin?

So where can I get it that is the best? Do I have to go to a vet?

    ___

    Thank you everyone!

Zuidy, you've been here long enough to know that there's good information at Guinea Lynx about both mites and ivermectin. Go to www.guinealynx.info, click on the index, and look for both topics.

    Pour On: Is This OK?

I was wondering if I could use that to treat topically for my Guinea Pig's Mites?

Yep :) that's the same one I have in my piggie first aid box. But you'll need to get a 1cc syringe, the one they provide is too big.

The lighting is a bit off, making it hard to identify if she does. You can take a magnifying glass and look closely to see if you can detect any. You can also look on guinea lynx to learn about symptoms, treatment, and what to do about mites there. :)

    Syringes: Luer Tip 1cc

I ordered some Luer tip 1cc volume syringes to treat my Piggies for Mites.

I was pretty sure I could use Luer tip syringes, but I am just looking for a second opinion. Can I use Luer tip syringes, and what is the difference between a Luer tip and regular needle?

So let me see if I got this straight.

I don't have the weights of my Piggies yet, I am weighing them tonight and regularly after tonight.

    Are my dosage equations correct:

Say my Piggies weigh about 0.7 kg. This means they need 0.07cc of the Ivermectin pour on. So, 0.07cc on a 1cc syringe will be less than the whole syringe obviously. Does the syringe have markings on it to let me know exactly how much I am giving them? Like does it have .5cc, .10cc etc.. marks on it? For those who are experienced with 1cc syringes.

So, to get it clearer for you:

My Piggies weigh 0.7 kg. That means they need 0.07cc of the Ivermectin Pour-On. Right? My Piggies probably don't weigh exactly 0.7 kg, so when I weigh them I will know just how much they need.

    Thanks everyone!

    Re: Syringes: Luer Tip 1cc

A luer tip syringe just lets the needle slide on and off. A luer lock syringe has a threaded end for the needle to screw onto. Regular syringes usually have the needle made as part of the syringe, and the needles are not removable.

You also need to know the strength of the Ivermectin pour-on before you can calculate the dosage. The bottle should say something like "5 mg/ml" or "1 mg/ml." You have to know that before you can measure accurately for your guinea pig.

    Re: Syringes: Luer Tip 1cc

5 mg of ivermectin per ml is what it says.

Also, the syringes came and they don't have a needle at all. Soo....... Oh well. They will still work. :)

    So was I right then @bpatters ?

    Re: Syringes: Luer Tip 1cc

    So, I weighed the Piggies.

    Lil' Babe: 885 grams
    Big Sis': 860 grams

So, both are closer to 900 grams than 800 grams. That means that, according to the chart here http://www.guinealynx.info/topical_i...n_pour-on.html I should need to give them 0.08cc of medicine. So I need to go to the 0.8 mark on the 1cc syringe, right?

Talking To All Who Helped My Girls With Their Mite Problems.......

    Thank you!

Big Sis', the Piggy who had the worst case of it, is already perking up since I treated yesterday.

I got the Ivermectin in the mail from Amazon and I treated right away and am already noticing a difference in behavior. Big Sis' hasn't been running away from me like she used to, and I am willing to bet that it is because she had a bad case of Mites.

So, Big Sis' and Lil' Babe are going to be way more happy now!

Also, Big Sis' being my Abby is going to get a hair cut and her first nail clipping (I haven't done either because of how fidgety she was whenever I tried to hold her)

But now that those problems are beginning to clear up, we can pamper the Piggies. :)

    Thanks everyone!
