Awww, that's great! I'm sooo happy for you and her!!! Yes, she's defenitly looking MUCH better, in that last video it was much better than the other ones! It looked completely normal, and the perfect moisture (: Keep a good eye on her, and of course tell us how she's doin' all the time!
Great news to hear,
Luna!
Poopy Picture!
These are some of the nicest stools I have ever seen from Bcup! You probably can't see from the picture but they are still a little soft (soft enough that if she or Piggy steps in them they will get poop shoes) but they are so nicely shaped and well formed. I can tell, we are definitely headed in the right direction!
The only thing that concerns me is that her weight is down to 628 g, which is the lowest it's ever been. I hope those KMS pellets get here soon!
As I said b-4 way to go B-Cup!!! Keep them coming..
I am sorry if I am missing it, but did you ever find out what is wrong with your pig?
My pig has been squeaking while pooping, having mushy poops, and farting sometimes. We have had an x-ray, ultrasound, urinalysis and a course of antibiotics, and a fecal float. I would love to know what it could be!
Did anyone ever get back to you about my idea for an overweight piggies diet in reverse? I've read that flaked peas are much loved by piggies but not given to them because they are fattening, but lets face it B/cup has some way to go before you've got to worry about obesity.
This is great news!
Is it wrong to say congratulations to her good pooping?
Hi ech90: Just checked in to see how Buttercup is doing. Hope the good poops are still coming.
Poo Update!
Hello! Sorry for the late update today. I would say that Bcup's poos a little bit 50/50, perhaps a little bit worse off than yesterday. Some of them are nice, some of them are just okay, but all of them are better than before. I took two videos to show you:
Video 1.
<strong>
As you can see, this one really just slides out effortlessly, almost like you blink and you miss it (it happens at 0:16). Here is a picture of the stool itself up close
Video 2:
<strong>
In this video, she lifts up her butt pretty high before the poos come out, but at least you don't see her body contracting and straining so much to push it out. Here is a picture of those stools up close.
The stools are slightly more misshapen than the ones yesterday, but they are still pretty small (with the exception of that last one, which was two small ones kind of linked together). The most important thing for me is that she doesn't seem to be in as much pain. Also, while things are still not perfect, I really have faith that they will only continue to get better! Her weight has gone down to 623 g, but the KMS pellets are estimated to arrive tomorrow. She was supposed to be on the Flagyl until Thursday but I stopped giving it to her yesterday, do you think that's okay?
And to the couchon - we have pretty much determined that the source of the problem was the pelltes (Oxbow Cavy Cuisine). Since I have taken them away, her poos have infinitely improved, but there really are two possibilities: (1) she GI distress was due to an allergy/intolerance to one of the ingredients in the pellets or (2) once the pellets were taken away she began to eat more hay and benefited from the increase in fiber. I ordered some KMS pellets that are due to arrive tomorrow, so I guess we will find out then. Either way, I would definitely trying the no-pellets with your guinea pig, you never know, it could help!
M.and.F.Piggies, I really like your idea of a reverse diet for overweight piggies to help Buttercup fatten up, but no one else has really commented more on it. The vet told me that one way to help her gain weight would be to feed vegetables that are higher in calcium, but I am a bit reluctant to do that for fear it will cause stones. His other suggestion was to increase her pellets, which I will probably do when the KMS arrives. I am just trying to figure out a way to help Buttercup gain weight without letting Piggy gain to much as well!
Thanks for the update Ech90. Looking forward to seeing how the new pellets work. I will check in tomorrow night.
Sorry to disappoint. This morning things were... very mushy, big, and trampled on. Everything is so up and down I don't even know what to think anymore. One good thing I guess is that the KMS pellets will be arriving today, but now I'm not so sure that the old pellets were even the problem to begin with. I kind of regret stopping the Flagyl a few days early (tomorrow was supposed to be her last day on it), but I figured, what's the point of destroying more and more good bacteria by keeping her on the antibiotic if the problem isn't something that the antibiotic is helping? Oh well...
Sorry if this post is kind of a downer. Just feeling really disappointed and discouraged. Will keep you posted on how things develop.

I think I missed the post where you were stopping the Flagyl. I would have encouraged you to keep on with that. It's pretty well tolerated, and I've used it with one of mine before with no ill effects. Do you think they'll give you some more, and you could give her the full course of it?
There's certainly no harm in asking. I'll let you know what they say. Thanks for the advice, bpatters.
I sent Bcup's vet an email, and if there is no response by tomorrow I will call. I just don't want this to go on any longer and am so ready for it to be resolved. Eurgh...here are the two most recent poos. I heard her squeak and saw her arch her back while they were coming out. Things are definitely getting worse again.

What a pain... I'm sorry this hasn't cleared up yet.
I agree that you should go the full course of any antibiotic, unless it is being switched out for another antibiotic. What is her current diet like? Did you make any changes between when her poops improved and now?
How is her weight today?
Her weight today is 622 g, so pretty much the same as it was yesterday. The KMS pellets should be here in a matter of hours, though, which is a huge relief. There have been absolutely no changes between now and when her poops improved, except the cessation of Flagyl. Her diet has been unlimited timothy hay, green bell peppers (she only eats a very small amount), and about 1/2 a cup of lettuce a day. I have been trying to keep her diet very simple while this all gets sorted out. Also, she has been getting the liquid vitamin c supplement daily.
Her vet emailed me back and he is starting her on a full course of antibiotics (Flagyl) again. Since there started to be improvement after 2 weeks, this time he is putting her on it for a month. I am going to go pick it up today. I think that perhaps the improvement was due to a combination of both the Flagyl and taking out the oxbow pellets - I don't think we can rule either one out.
Thanks for the update. I keep hoping things will get better. I am not sure I would be handling it as well as you. I get stressed out if I THINK something is wrong with my girls. My husband says guinea pigs are bad for my health because I worry about them too much.
Good move.I have been trying to keep her diet very simple while this all gets sorted out
It sounds like you and the vet may be on the right track. I'll have my fingers crossed that another Flagyl cycle knocks it out. Flagyl also has anti-diarrheal effects, so that may help clear up his poops.
This may have been sujected before.. BUT when my rodents (hamster or GP) my vet always put them on Bene-bac once day in between the antibiotics. Once I asked my dad to give it to our rat..I siad to him "just give a drop" When I called him to make sure he gave it..I asked him (dad) did he take it..He Said the whole thing..I asked what do you mean the whole thing..He said it took the whole tube..I freek out..Hang up on him and all the vet..To my relieve they said it's not a problem that's it just like yogurt. I have never ask my dad to give meds again..That said this is he is a DOCTOR..
This thread is like a movie for me!
