Re: Creature may have kidney failure
Definitely have you looked into CareCredit?
The sad fact is that almost no one is going to be able to take on a sick guinea pig financially. Rescues are full of guinea pigs desparately needing help. The are constantly short on funds. You are her best hope for recovery.
I don't know where you are (you put Frozen Wasteland). I am in the United States. If your vet is willing to take a US Check, PayPal or a United States Credit card I am willing to pay for a vet visit of up to $100 American Dollars. I will cover the vet visit - pay the vet directly.
I don't know what the ongoing care will be. You mentioned treatments? Is it known what is wrong with Creature?
I just know the odds are Creature's best and probably only chance of help is with you.
(I don't know if you can privately email someone, hence this post.)

rpaws, if you click on the person's name, you can send a PM to them. They'll be notified of the PM by email, and will have to sign onto the forum to see it.

Re: Creature may have kidney failure
I'm coming into this late, but am confused. How is the vet diagnosing kidney failure? Did you have a vet appointment today? Did the vet consider a bladder stone, or a UTI? Both of these can cause the symptoms you are describing.

Re: Creature may have kidney failure
bpatters,
Thank you for the directions. I was clueless on how to pm.
As foggycreekcavy wrote, what is the vet diagnosing - kidney failure, diabetes, a bladder stone or a UTI? My guinea pig's bladders stone was diagnoised via an xray. I don't know anything about kidney failure, but a UTI can be cured with antibiotics.
Did Creature go to the vet today? I thought she had an appointment on Wednesday, today.
Again, please think of creative solutions to help finance the care of Creature. Carecredit is a good option.
Sadly, the world is full of rescues who cannot even provide medical care for the animals they have under their care. You are the best hope for Creature.

Re: Creature may have kidney failure
I would like to hear what the diagnosis was for Creature! I am just reading all of this. My little baby died of double kidney failure. He had kidney stones his whole life...starting as just a baby. He was literally fine one day and the next morning I knew something was wrong. I thought it was time for yet another vet check for the stones but it was SO much worse. I felt awful for not taking him to the e.r. He died within 24 hours. His whole body shriveled up and he couldn't even lift his head. I was devastated. I know how incredibly difficult health issues and specifically kidney issues can be. I hope that Creature is ok and I hope you looked into CareCredit. There are other financing issues out there too. Remember, his life revolves around you. He has been brave and fighting the fight..I hope you will continue to be there for him in the best way.

Re: Creature may have kidney failure
I have no idea what it is... And Creature found a new home with my coworker/friend, who is taking her to a vet in the city Tuesday, as a part of our agreement of her wanting Creature. However, it is astonishing for such "fragile" creatures guineas are, how well they reacted to proper care. I had found out the "Hartz pellets" the previous owner used was RABBIT PELLETS and not for guineas. So far, so good, and there was such a remarkable change in these guineas I got, including they are in the clear away from bumblefoot possibilities... :)
