Eye Crust and Sneezing
My guinea pig thumper went to the vet 2 days ago and they never actually told me what he has! He is just a baby and i am very worried about him. he is on bene-bac and sulfamethoxazole trimethoprim. Yesterday, one of his eyes was completely fused shut by the crust but i was able to use a wet cloth to remove most of it.
I'm really worried and begging for any advice!
Also, ANY PLACE TO NEYTER A GUINEA PIG IS PA?

Re: Eye Crust and Sneezing
Is this one of your pet store pigs?
What are his symptoms?
Pet store pigs usually have URI, mites, and fungus.
The eye may be an injury or a severe infection. Bactrim should fight it off but younger pigs can have weaker immune systems. And pet store/ mill pigs are usually already compromised due to poor conditions and care.
Are you weighing him? Is he eating?

If your vet won't communicate or reply to questions, you should find another cavy vet: http://www.guinealynx.info/cabinet/i...s_Pennsylvania

Re: Eye Crust and Sneezing
Thanks for your concern! I'm pretty confident he is getting better because the sneezing has almost stopped and his eyes are minor. He is eating like a horse and gaining weight like crazy! Yes he is from a pet store unfortunately. Why can't they just treat them right!?
But yeah, He has improved a bunch since i posted this and I'm confident he will be okay.

Re: Eye Crust and Sneezing
Pet stores don't care about treating them right and have no incentive to if people like you buy them sick anyway.
Does that mean you are weighing him weekly in a kitchen scale?
Why did you buy a boy if you have to neuter him?
