Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 What is this? I just washed all three of my new piggies about an hour ago and now Hugo has this giant white thing in his butt. I'd guess boar glue, but I thought that was clear? I don't know boars very well... help? I tried rinsing it off but it didn't work. |

Just did a deeper forum search than I did before making the thread, it looks like it is boar glue after all. I don't have any oil on hand, so I'll just try to cut it out... oi. |

They're obscenely excited. They keep running around like nuts and then flopping over, playing dominance games, popcorning hideys... it's a riot- and a very loud one at that. I'm glad I brought Tahiri, Kimi, and Leonidas into our room and not the new dudes, as they're far more calm. |

![]() Yes, cutting out the glue is pretty frustrating. If you have some Dawn soap or dish soap, a tiny bit might get it out...just rinse it off real good. We did that for a few weeks until we could find some mineral oil that was under $5 a bottle. Mine too!! It's like, as soon as I flip off that light and lay my head on the pillow, it's mardi gras in Pigsville! |

You had me laughing out loud too- his poor dignity!!! :) The photo is pretty funny looking now that I look at it. I have my confused/worried face on too, which just adds to it. *smacks forehead* James and I were just so shocked and freaked out that we had NO idea what to make of it... James was all "I don't want to hold him, you hold him!" Poor guy (Hugo, not James). I was just worried his butt exploded and it was bones or his inside or an alien... or something. I didn't want him to be hurt, they all seemed so healthy so far for abandoned piggles! Luckily, I was able to chop off the hair around it and it came off no problem. I'm glad it didn't happen on a more noticeable part of him. I used a hot washcloth to coax off what was stuck on. Hugo didn't make a fuss, I was surprised. He's pretty chill. How often do these kind of things happen with boars, anyway? EDIT- The only thing James said when he saw your photo was "MMMM! Shrimp and Crab Cakes!" (he just noticed the newspaper article on the lower right, not the boar glue) XD |

I have 6 boars and it doesn't happen that often. It's pretty grody when it does happen. The worst was Alton, so I bought him some little dog toys and a stuffed guinea pig from Ikea and he assaults those now when he feels the need. I just bought him a little yellow taxi cab last week. That is really special to see! |

...and that poor Ikea guinea pig. I've heard other threads talk about Ikea pig assault as well. XD I've got these three guys together, I had Snidely out of the cage and it was when I put him back in that I noticed it. I'm guessing either Hugo messed himself, or Boris did it to him. I have no idea, nor do I particularly care whose fault it was, or who did what... I just hope that it's not too regular of a thing. I'd hate for them to look like a Barbie doll whose owner just learned the wonder of scissors all the time! So for your six, about what would you say is the frequency? 1x a year, a month, a season, etc? |

This thread is too funny!!!;-) But aside all the laughs, what is boar glue???? Why does it happen? I have two boars and I've never seen anything like it. |

Boar glue is um... reproductive fluids. I'm not sure why or how often it happens, I'm still trying to find that out- especially since I just adopted three unaltered boars! O_O |

I would say with Alton, Carlton, and Winston, it doesn't happen that often on each other. I do find boar glue on the fleece and IKEA pig, dog toys, stuffed taxi, etc. all from Alton. Last week, he had a little on his own stomach (but it wasn't much). He is the oldest, largest, and bossiest. In Byron, Errol, and Fitzroy's group, I found that Fitzroy (the small runtly one) has been glued twice in the last month. I think Byron did it, but I am not certain. During floor time, they all get excited and want to mark their territory and establish boss of the floor time, so I've had it happen more often during then. Quote:
The reason is to keep a second boar from mating with the sow and fertilizing her with his sperm which would create a multiple paternity. It's gene competition, basically. |

We have ninja pigs. When they're free ranging in the kitchen they tip toe around some times my daughter's been trying to get it on film for weeks. |
