Gently wipe it away--does it come back? If so, a visit to a vet may be in order. Have you been weighing the pig? Is there any weight loss? |

The reason you weigh is because ill pigs will often lose weight. If you weigh everyday at the same time and start to notice a decrease in weight over a few days, that can be a sign of illness. Crusty eyes can often be a sign of a URI or eye problems. |

How much your pig weighs isn't all that important; there is a wide range of what is normal. The reason you should weigh weekly (or daily if you suspect a problem) is that weight loss is often the first or only sign of illness. |

Ly is right, he could have a potential eye problem or injury or it could be a symptom of an URI. Did you check the GuineaLynx page on eyes? http://www.guinealynx.info/eyes.html Does it look like there is something in the eye? About 2 months ago or so, Fitzroy had a little crust in his eye and what we thought looked like a little bit of cloudy mucous on the eye. We took him to the vet and he had an injury to his eye. We couldn't see the injury to his eye, but the vet put a stain in his eye and looked with a light and was able to see it. If we had left it untreated, Fitzy could have lost his eye. Here's what it looked like to us: ![]() I'd follow the others great advice given already and take your little guy to the vet asap. |
