Ok, so my 3 guinea pigs have lump in the near genital area with hair loss and itching. I don't think it is mites but my guinea pigs have hair loss and scratching. Here is the picture from cavyspirit: http://photos.imageevent.com/cavyspi...cons/pic11.jpg My guinea pig's abdominal are looks extremely like the picture from cavyspirit. Thanks cavyspirit for the picture! Please help me! Thanks a lot! Last edited by Ly&Pigs; 10-29-09 at 09:16 pm. |

Hey there. About the picture, did you provide that for us to let us know what gender your piggies are? I'm just asking because the guinea pig's genital area and abdomen in that photo appears to be perfectly healthy/normal to me. Here is a thread from Guinealynx about follicular cysts: http://www.guinealynx.info/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25794 They are, in the case of the guinea pig that thread is about, located near the genital area. Is there any way that you can get photos of your piggies problem spots on here? |

The picture you've provided is a female. Are you sure your pigs are males? Have you seen this page? Sexing Guinea Pigs: How to Sex a Guinea Pig |

I'm trying to figure out what lumps you are talking about? Do you mean the nipples? I unapproved your last post because it said the same thing you posted yesterday. Please just have patience and wait for replies and don't post the same thing multiple times. Thanks. Edit: I borrowed T's photo and put some circles around two areas. Is this what you are talking about? Last edited by Ly&Pigs; 10-31-09 at 12:52 am. |

Yeah, those are just nipples. Males and females have them. |

Yep, that's what I thought. You were seeing nipples. Like Nichols said, all pigs have them and there is no hair around them. However, if your pigs have hair loss any where else (except behind the ears, that's normal too) or if they are scratching a lot then you want to treat them with Ivermectin because they most likely have mites. |

oh! I thought it was mites. Glad that my guinea pigs are "mite-less". |

Could you tell me more about those nipples? |

There's nothing really to tell. In female pigs, pups use them to nurse. In male pigs, they have no actual purpose other than decoration. Like I said before, your pigs may have mites. Did you read my last post? |

But they only scratch maybe every 1 week. |
