Duckie has been scratching a lot lately and since we have only had her about a month,Idecided to treat her for mites since there are no visible signs of anything. I just ordered some pour-on Agri-mectin and a 1cc syringe with a needle. Has anybody used this before? It seems most people use the Ivomec injectable, but it seems to me Agri-mectin would be a little easier to dose since the concentration is 5mg is Ivermectin per ml,as supposed to the Ivomec that I believe is 10mg/ml Ivermectin.Any thoughts? Duckie is still small,a little over 12 oz,so dosage will be especially critical, guinea lynx has some detailed instructions on how to calculate dosage,so I know I can figure it out,I guess it is just a bit nervewracking to put something on your little pet that is potentially lethal |

As long as you're comfortable dosing it, it doesn't really matter what kind you use. You're not planning on injecting it though, right? It's hard to tell from your post. |

I have only had to dose pets in the hundreds of pounds neighborhood, horse and heifer but accurate weight to dose is important. Ivermectin is good stuff used as directed. Sometimes piggies just scratch, has there been hair loss or balding? Duckie is still so small the dose will most likely be like a drop behind the ear. Read the instructions several time and triple check the measure. Better under than over and you can try again in ten days. While waiting for the shipment keep reading and gather all the extra info you can. |

No,I'm not planning on injecting it,and I am reading all I can find on treating with it,I guess I'm somewhat confused about the concentration of Ivermectin in different products,i.e the injectables state 1% Ivermectin, whereas the pour-on products list the mg amount of Ivermectin per ml,one source I just now came across online said to only use the 1% injectable Ivermectin(such as Ivomec and injectable Agri-Mectin),usaing it topically of course. I'm wondering if anyone has used any pour-on product as opposed to the injectable ones. Thanks for all the valuable feedback and no,she has no bald patches, hairloss or anything ,just very frequent scratching . |

I think you need to know whether the 1% is by weight or by volume. Probably volume, and there's probably not much difference, but I'd check with the manufacturer to be sure. Percent by volume is calculated as the number of grams of medicine per 100 milliliters of solution. So a 1% solution by volume is 1 gram of ivermectin per 100 ml. of solution. Percent by weight is the number of grams of medicine per 100 grams of solution. A 1% solution is 1 gram of medicine per 100 grams of solution. If it's a water solution, it's the same, as 1 gram of water weighs 1 milliliter (roughly -- depends on the temperature). Something dissolved in syrup, for instance, or acetone, would be considerably different by weight or volume. |

I've used Agri-mectin. See this page. http://www.guinealynx.info/dose_calculator.html It has dosage calculator for 0.5% pour-on for topical use. By the way, 12 oz is 340 grams. Is it this one, you're using? Agri-mectin Pour-on Agri-labs (Farm Supplies - Cattle Wormers - Ivermectins - Pour-on) Last edited by lissie; 10-23-09 at 12:32 pm. Reason: merging all my replies |

thanks lissie, yes that is the product I ordered,I have a scale that measures 10ths of grams,so I can weigh her very accurately. It's nice to know someone else has used the pour-on solution, did you use the pour-on or the injectable Agri-mectin and did you repeat once or twice ? |

I used the pour-on, applied to the bald spots. I actually used it 7 times. My pigs have been through lots of medications, oral ivermectin, advantage, and revolution. This pour-on thing seems to work best on them since nothing else was helping. They had lice though, not mites. |

You will want to dose at least 3 times spaced 7-10 days apart. Generally, most people here dose 7 days apart. |
