Yep, another question about Fitzroy. He's my little problem pig. It's always something or other that gets me worried. He loves the attention though! Fitzroy's one ear is kind of dry inside. It isn't dry in the ear canal itself, just the outside part. He has one black ear and one white ear and the white ear feels dry and has flaky dry skin on the inside. After looking on GuineaLynx for advice, we put some mineral oil on a Q-tip and swabbed it gently and it came right off. It's the color of his skin. It doesn't have any color to it. It doesn't smell bad. It doesn't seem to hurt him, but he doesn't like us to touch it. He doesn't cock his head or shake it. The other ear is fine. And no one else has ear troubles. Then the other day, he had little scabs on the outside of his ear, on the bottom lobe part and a little redness on the bald spot behind it. I was thinking maybe it itched and he tried to scratch it, although I haven't seen him do this. And then, I saw his brother Errol nibble at Fitzroy's fur yesterday. I hadn't seen him do it before or since, but I have been keeping an eye on it. He didn't pull any hair out or eat any, just nibbled on it. I am now wondering if he nibbles Fitzy's ear too...ugh. Any ideas what this might be? |

My teddy (who is also orange and white) has FILTHY ears. Full of gunk and skin flakes all the time. My vet said it's a teddy thing and that it isn't a big deal because it isn't in the ear canal, just around the outside. She said to use a cotton ball with baby oil and just rub it in there every couple weeks. It doesn't actually clean the ears right then and there, but the oil helps the gunk work itself out. |
