I have a 3 month old boy and I was concerned about impaction so I looked it up and read that it usually happens in older pigs but that you should clean out the sac on a regular basis. Is that necessary? If so how often? What are the signs to watch for? He looks kinda swollen there but I am assuming its his testicles??? I have never had pigs before so excuse my ignorance. |

Not necessarily at 3 months, but it's good to get them into a routine of cleaning their sac out. This site tells you how to clean: http://www.guinealynx.info/impaction.html And this site will give you an idea what a male guinea pig looks like. Sexing Guinea Pigs: How to Sex a Guinea Pig It's probably just his testicles. |

Thank you Paula! The pictures helped. I thought it was his testicles but was surprised he looked so much like a boy when I have read so much about how hard it is to tell the sex sometimes |

I was wondering about impaction too. Do you really have to check/clean their bottoms so much?! Eek. |

My regular vet told me you dont really need to clean it out unless it needs it. He said that its fine to do it on a regular basis and will help when a time comes that they need it cleaned out (they will be used to it) but you dont have to. |
