    Head Tilt

    Hello!

I'm almost positive Edward has Head tilt, and I already booked an appoinment for him, but, I was wondering what to expect to happen when I take him. He's been there before for teeth clippings (he's a lethal), but I wanted to know what they will be looking at and what kind of proceedures they do. Thank you for any information possible!

    Re: Head Tilt

When one of my girls had a head tilt a while back, I also took her to the vet right away. He gave her a general health check and thoroughly checked out her ears. He noticed some "growth" of gunk-like stuff in one ear and swabbed it. He then tested it/looked under the microscope with it or something (sorry I don't really remember, it was a while ago) and agreed with me saying that she had an inner ear infection. She was prescribed antibiotics and was fine within a few days.

I wish I could remember more... but that's what I DO remember. I hope it helps.

They should examine the ears and do a weigh in at the very least. I'm sure the vet should do an overall check.

Thank you so much. I just wanted to make sure I was ahead of the game (so t speak) and understood what was going on. When it comes to Edward, it makes me nervous with anything he has to go through, he's been through a lot already!

Get a dental X-ray. He could have tooth wonkiness that is affecting his inner ear.

That said, a lot of lethals have head tilts. It could be a deformation of the inner ear, as well.

Not likely congenital if it's recent- which the post seems to suggest.

What others have said on likely tests seems pretty good- though x-rays of teeth/heads can be tricky. CT is better, though expensive! That would be like step 3 after an ear infection or similar is ruled out, probably. If they can even do it- I think GPs are small enough you need a special CT scanner.

I was worried you might say something about that. Poor little lethals have it so bad. Edward doesn't deserve any of this, he's such a gentle little guy. I'll do anything I can for him as long as he's with me.

Now I know, just like human, we all heal differently, but could him being a lethal and all slow his recovery process at all?

I actually know of a lethal who died of congenital deformity of his sinuses. (Erin's Patrick) It didn't bother him until he was 5 months old, at which point he was large enough that it became troublesome.

I'm not sure if Einy had trouble healing, or if he was just so frail that he kept getting sick.
